Maizeoil has over double the energy of an equivalent weight of corn. Oil is almost totally digestible from the small intestine, so it does not promote colic or make the horse as fizzy as heavy grain diets can do. It also puts a gloss on the horses coat, acts as a mild laxativeamp; is useful for rehabilitating starved horses, and for keeping weight on poor doers and geriatrics. To avoid problems related to rapid change of diet, commence with an initaldose of 1/4 cup per day.
