Gift Ideas for Boys (5-7 years)

He's just started school and is getting a taste for independence, and you have no idea what to get for him. Try our gift guide for some great ideas for 5 to 11 year-old boys.
Bicycles
There might be no greater present for a boy than his first bike: freedom, exercise and transport. A good BMX can last him even longer than a downsized mountain bike, as the sheer numbers of adult BMX riders should attest. If you do give him a bicycle, just make sure he gets a helmet too.
Outdoor Toys
Anything that gets boys outdoors, active and exercising is a good thing, whether they're having fun playing ballgames or swimming and splashing about in the pool and sea. Even if he doesn't like sport, toys for pretend play are always fun. And nothing beats a tent for camping in the back garden.
Construction Sets
Boy like making things, and good construction toys like Lego and K'Nex mean that with a bit of creativity, he can build whatever toy he desires. And the great thing about Lego is that it can be combined with even the oldest hand-me-down sets and turned into something even better.
Ben 10
One of the latest crazes, he's almost sure to like Ben 10 toys and videos. With the vivid, massive assortment of aliens and accessories, it's probably a good idea to weasel which specific Ben 10 action figure or toy he really wants.
Toy Vehicles
Boys do love machines. If you can find out what his favourite car or plane is, or maybe he prefers tanks and trucks, there's bound to be a miniature version of the thing that will drive him wild with excitement.
Books
He's just learning to read, and what better gift to encourage him than an exciting book? Fiction or non-fiction, if you know what he's interested in, he'll devour a good book in days, and then devour it all over again when he's done.
