Rainbow Under the Sea by Jeffrey L. RotmanFrom $19.5
Showcasing the exceptional photographs of one of today's foremost underwater photographers, this volume provides readers with a unique opportunity to explore the hidden crevices of the ocean world-close up. Using the technique of microphotography, award-winning photographer Jeffrey Rotman zooms in on such specific features as a fish eye, gills, and scales, immortalizing the most miniscule details in photographs that resemble abstract paintings. Coral formations become castles, a fish's fin becomes fine art. Through these images, readers get a sense of the vast diversity of the underwater world. We glimpse eyes that peer out of the darkness, discover camouflage patterns, and experience various textures, shifting light and shadows. The artistic presentation of this book, designed to bring out the pictorial richness of each image, supplemented by an insightful text, offers a superb and truly unique celebration of the rare and seldom-seen treasures of the ocean world.
Eyes into Secret Seas by Jeffrey L. RotmanFrom $12.95
Jeff Rotman's speciality is macro-photography - extreme close-ups of underwater life which turn natural history into abstract images: eyes peeping out of the darkness, the sensual dance of the anemone tentacle, the geometric shapes that cover the sea bed, and the infinitely small secrets of the deep seas. This work showcases the best of Rotman's work, presented along with a text which tells the story of the artist, his underwater adventures and technical procedures which have combined into an original perception of life on earth.
Catalogue of Egyptian Art by Lawrence M. BermanFrom $50.95
Although much smaller than the famous collections of Egyptian art and antiquities in New York's Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Brooklyn Museum of Art, or the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, the Cleveland Museum of Art's holdings are well known for their high aesthetic quality. Objects loaned by Cleveland have contributed significantly to most major Egyptian art exhibitions during the past several decades. First envisioned in 1917, this catalog was finally begun in 1993, when Berman, now the museum's first full-time curator of Egyptian and Ancient Near Eastern Art, was engaged as a contract consultant for the project. Berman presents the objects in chronological sections corresponding to the major periods of Egyptian history, with additional divisions for Amulets, Miscellaneous Objects, and Forgeries and Questionable Pieces. Entries consist of a descriptive essay, materials and construction, condition, provenance, and a bibliography. Translations are provided for nearly all inscriptions. Art historians and archaeologists will welcome this publication, as will all library patrons with a keen interest in ancient Egypt.
D'artiste Concept Art by Nicolas BouvierFrom $75
d'artiste: Concept Art presents the techniques of leading concept artists Viktor Antonov, George Hull, Andrew Jones and Nicolas "Sparth" Bouvier. Each master artist demonstrates a unique approach from initial sketch to concept completion through 94 pages of detailed commentary on projects like Matrix Revolutions and Half Life 2. Biographical notes added to personal and invited artist galleries present unique insights into the approaches and techniques required to be a top concept artist.
Megalomania by Philippe TretiackFrom $16.75
Architecture is an art of excess. The human being a prisoner to his fragile corporal envelope, destined to, at best, survive a century before vanishing forever dreams of building for eternity. Whenever money, power, or authority permits, he tries to build huge, majestic edifices that will lastingly celebrate the destiny of their owner. From the pyramids of Egypt to the Burj al-Arab hotel, through Xanadu, Brasilia, or the Millenium Dome, Megalomania lists the masterpieces, lines them up like so many trophies, a row of extravagances from the four corners of the world in which space, that supreme luxury, is everywhere in excess. Megalomania is a psychological disorder consisting in overestimating one's capacities, and many a builder has paid dearly for his paranoid excesses. One merely has to think of the scandal of the Millennium Dome in London, the disasterous ecological consequences of the Aswan Dam, towering infernos transformed by the film industry into characters in their own right ... virtual iron and steel King Kongs. When stone accelerates, swells, and gesticulates, provokes, screams, and transforms itself into propaganda for a human destiny that sees itself as a saga, architecture oscillates between the cenotaph, the space capsule, and El Dorado. About the Author Phillipe Tretiack is an architect, writer and reporter for Elle and Beaux-Arts magazines. He is the author of Warhol's America, Raymond Loewy, Faut-il pendre les architectes and Limite Vulgaire.

How to Draw Dinosaurs by Paul LennonFrom $9.95
Discover the artist within by creating your own illustrated masterpieces with Steve Parish and the Queensland Museum's How to Draw Australian Dinosaurs and Other Prehistoric Animals. You will also learn simple techniques to bring your dinosaurs "to life" using pencils and paints, add speed or movement using shading, and provide perspective using size and colour. As you draw and colour these dinosaurs, you will discover fascinating facts such as what they ate, the sounds they made, how big they were and how they protected themselves. Tracey Emin by Carl FreedmanFrom $50.75
The extensive text is based on a long friendship and hundreds of hours of discussion between Emin and Carl Freedman, himself a renowned gallerist and art publisher. This book covers her work in all media: drawing, sculpture, film, photography, and writing. David Bowie called Emin while critics describe her art as full of passion, striving, and liveliness. Tracey Emin produces what can best be described as autobiographical art. Her works have included the famous embroidered tent Everyone I Have Ever Slept With 1963-95 (1995), the book about her childhood Exploration of the Soul (1994), the Tracey Emin Museum in a shop in London (1995-98), and her bed, My Bed (1998) at the Tate. Saatchi's 1997 exhibition Sensation at the Royal Academy of Arts (and later to the Hamburger Banhof in Berlin and the Brooklyn Museum of Art) cemented her reputation. The show attracted some high profile criticism but audiences remain fascinated by the raw openness of her work. Though she didn't win the 1999 Turner Prize, critics noted that the public visiting the Tate's exhibition were much more visibly engaged by Emin's work than that of the other Turner Prize nominees. In her multimedia work she uses sewing, neons, videos, Super-8 films, photographs, watercolors, and is also a compulsive writer. Emin's art is highly confessional, for she makes her life known as well as her beliefs and her feelings. Her life and art are inextricably entwined. Her work is a controlled exhibition of the self: often tragic, sometimes funny.
