Sauternes 2010 In any sixFrom $87.39
Although a reasonably sizeable estate for Sauternes, covering some 75 hectares of vineyards, Chateau Rieussec still manages to maintain its reputation at the very upper end of Sauternes wines, anchored by its distinguishable richness density and concentration in style. The vineyards are located adjacent to Chateau d'Yquem, and the property is owned by doyens of Bordeaux in the Domaines Barons de Rothschild. The vineyards are planted to 89% S?millon, 8% Sauvignon Blanc and 3% Muscadelle with low-yielding vines. The fruit is fermented in stainless steel and oak barrels, before maturing in around 70% new oak for up to two years. In best vintages, Rieussec will rival d'Yquems famed wines.
Sauternes 2010 In any sixFrom $38.95
Significant neighbours for Chateau Raymond-Lafon include Chateau Suduiraut nearby and Chateau d’Yquem, which places Chateau Raymond Lafon firmly in the dress circle of Sauternes. The location doesn’t just benefit the 18 hectare vineyard, but influences winemaking, with Chateau Raymond Lafon utilising the same winemaking techniques as their neighbours at d'Yquem. The Semillon dominant Sauterns spends three years in 100% new oak barrel, lending power and density to the wines.
St-Julien 2010 In any sixFrom $161.5
From the smallest and often overlooked cru of St-Julien, Chateau Saint-Pierre comes with a complex relationship to history, fine tuned in recent years with more decided viticulture and hands-on winemaking. The property curates only 17 hectares of vines, but under the guidance of winegrower Jean-Louis Triaud enjoyed a depth, concentration and presence in glass that has captured great attention. A stellar release from 2010 with all the trimmings of finer wines above the 4th Growth status.
Château Guiraud Sauterrnes 2010 In any sixFrom $50.35
Alongside Chateau d'Yquem, Chateau Guiraud is the only other 1st Growth Sauternes that is physically inside the sub-appellation of Sauternes itself. The wine has seen significant interst for its density, richness and unctuous nature, produced from vineyards planted to 65% Semillon and 35% Sauvignon Blanc. Fruit is harvested in tranches, sorted, and fermented in oak before being matured for up to two years in oak barrels, of which 50% are new. The reputation of Chateau Guiraud has soared since the 1980s with more sypmatico viticulture and winemaking as catalysts.
Château Léoville-Poyferré Saint-Julien 2009 In any sixFrom $284.99
The times ahead for Château Léoville-Poyferré are very exciting indeed. After many years of changing ownership, the fortunes of the vineyard have also ebbed and flowed. With the younger generation of the Cuvelier's now at the helm, the results speak for themselves. No more so than the quite exuberant 2009 Léoville-Poyferré which has seen the estate produce what is possibly the greatest wine to have been produced there. Close to perfection in so many ways, the layer upon layer of complex flavours is something to behold. Blackcurrant, graphite, espresso, mocha, menthol, blueberry to name but a few. A modern Bordeaux classic in the makings.
Sauternes 2010 In any sixFrom $79.79
In a prime location bordering the uber-producer of Sauternes, Chateau d'Yquem, Ch?teau Suduiraut farms 90 hectares of vineyards planted to 80% Semillon and 20% Sauvignon Blanc, and is known for sweet wines of profound depth, balance and complexity. Farming sees the fruit harvested in tranches for selecting fruit, before the wines are fermented in stainless steel tanks - the wines mature in 33% new oak barrels for up to 24 months. In best vintages, like 2010, the wines can readily rival d'Yquem for potency and detail, plus the inevitable drinkability.
Barsac 2010 In any sixFrom $41.79
The 2nd Growth Barsac estate of Chateau Doisy-Da?ne produces wines of elegance, sleekness and precision - owner Denis Dubourdieu is credited with contributing to the revitalisation and increase in profile for the Barsac region, and it could be said that the counter-culture freshness of this style has contributed. While the wine is meant to be consumed in youth, Chateau Doisy-Daene is also notable for its ability to age with grace and mellow complexity, The well-tended vineyards are divided between 70% Semillon, 20% Sauvignon Blanc and 10% Muscadelle.
Sauternes 2010 In any sixFrom $33.25
Chateau d'Arche is located in Southern Gironde above the village of Sauternes. The property stretches over 40 hectares of vineyard and boasts the original 17th century chateau-cum-hotel, still grandly standing on the property. The vineyards are worked organically and the average age of vines is 45 years, with the balance of varieties set to Semillon (90%), Sauvignon Blanc (9%) and Muscadelle (1%). The fruit is hand-picked, bunch selected and vinified carefully to produce the incredibly dense, rich and yet fresh wines that carry on the Chateau d'Arche house style.
Henschke Cyril Henschke Cabernet Sauvignon In any sixFrom $128.25
Henschke's flagship Cabernet is named after the late Cyril Henschke who purchased the Eden Valley property in the 1960s. Stephen and Prue Henschke then established the vineyard with Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc vines which produces this intensely perfumed Cabernet. Matured in 100% new French oak for 18 months, this exceptional wine shows blackcurrant and cedar characters balanced with superb fine grained tannin.
Château Pape Clément Pessac-Léognan 2010 In any sixFrom $269.8
A blend of 51% Merlot, 47% Cabernet Sauvignon and 2% Petit Verdot from 2010 - the Chateau Pape Clement is located in Pessac covering 32 hectares of vines, planted to red and white varieties. The estate is considered one of the most historical in all of Bordeaux, with history dating back to the 14th century, though its reputation wasn't fully forged until the mid-20th century. Detailed vineyard work is now a motif for the prestigious winery, and winemaking is set to modern with the use of stainless steel and higher ratio of new oak barrels. Though considered Cru Classe Graves, Chateau Pape Clement is considered one of the most collectable and highest quality estates in Pessac-Leognan.
