WOOING TREE PINOT NOIR 2010: Ripe hand picked fruit, gentle winemaking and maturation in French oak have resulted in a complex and powerful wine, with aromas of ripe cherries, raspberries and Black Doris plums, a rich and silky smooth palate with fine grainy tannins to match the fruit. SPINIFEX VALLEE DES ROCHES SHIRAZFrom $99.99
SPINIFEX VALLEE DES ROCHES SHIRAZ 2009: Since 2006 Spnifex have been taking fruit from a small vineyard located high in the Barossa Ranges, owned and managed by a talented and committed couple who have a rare depth of understanding of their vineyard, the practicalities of vine growing and the world of wine. With a special site and expert growers, ‘wine-growers’ in the truest sense, this vineyard has consistently provided key components to a number of our wines over the last six vintages. This bottling (of 585 bottles) is from the most mature shiraz planted on the property. It’s a lovely, clear expression of time and place. Appropriately unevloved, structurally monolithic and disjoint at this early stage, this wine demands significant time in the bottle to find its full expression, balance and cohesion. Pungent and tightly meshed aromas of dark spicy fruit and oak. Dark roasted hazelnut, vanilla, and a high, ethereal note that flirts with being violety - five spice, currant, cherry, raspberry, sandlewood, dried porcini and coal gas. With strong red plum, dried herb, spice and wood flavors, it has a minerally streak, marked intensity and power but with a textural openness, a generosity, that is the mark of the region, the sun and the ancient soil, yet not at the expense of definition, tannic freshness and line.
SPINIFEX LE CHEMIN RED BLEND 2009From $74.99
SPINIFEX LE CHEMIN RED BLEND 2009: "Le Chemin is a new wine for Spinifex and rolls in the mix Grenache, Mataro, Shiraz, Carignan and Cinsault. Co-fermentation takes place in a single 25hl French stave foudre with 25% whole bunch for good measure. That's the details. Winemaker Peter Schell really pushes his love for the wines of the Rhone to the next Barossan level. Inspiring and inspiration in equal measures. Charm from the bouquet - char, smoke, slate, red berries and a heady earth/briar mix all going on. The colour is more transparent here, garnet and bright. The palate is very fine, tinged with anise and a herbal, stemmy character; it all moves rapidly to the rear of the palate. Appreciation for subtlety and finesse is par for the course - this is understatement from the Barossa that few achieve. Alive and pretty, lovely to drink and coursing with natural, red berry fruit expression. Great stuff."94 points. The Wine Front. www.winefront.com.au July 2011.
