From YouTube to Instagram, video games to installation art, this dramatic visual transformation is liberating, confusing and worrying all at once. Nicholas Mirzoeff is a leading figure in the burgeoning field of visual culture, which aims to make sense of the images and artefacts all around us. In the first book to explain this fascinating and timely subject to the general reader, Mirzoeff draws on art history, theory and everyday experience to provide an engaging, approachable introduction to how visual materials shape our lives.About the Author Nicholas Mirzoeff is Professor of Media Culture and Communication at New York University. He is one of the founders of the academic discipline of visual culture in books like An Introduction to Visual Culture (1999/2009) and The Visual Culture Reader (1998/2002/2012). He is also Deputy Director of the International Association for Visual Culture and organized its first conference in 2012. His most recent book The Right to Look: A Counterhistory of Visuality (2011) won the Anne Friedberg Award for Innovative Scholarship from the Society of Cinema and Media Studies. He is currently working on expanding the project into a trilogy. The second part will deal with countervisuality in the global social movements of 2011, in which Mirzoeff was an active participant with Occupy Wall Street and Strike Debt. Vietnam War Movies by Jamie RussellFrom $1.95
The Pocket Essentials Series is a dynamic series of books that are concise, lively, and easy to read. Packed with facts as well as expert opinions, each book has all the key information you need to know about such popular topics as film, television, cult fiction, history, and more. It has been over 25 years since the Americans left Vietnam, their most ignominious defeat ever. From The Deer Hunter to Platoon, the Vietnam cycle of films that America has been producing since the 1970s has had an impact on audiences on both sides of the Atlantic. This Pocket Essential offers an overview of the genre, including its many sub-genres - the training film Full Metal Jacket, the anti-war diatribe Platoon, the Vietnam Vet saga Rambo: First Blood, and the surreal Apocalypse Now. Loved by audiences, debated over by critics, and frequently used on film studies and history courses, the Vietnam War film has a wide appeal.
Art of Forgery by Noah CharneyFrom $33.5
The Art of Forgery: The Minds, Motives and Methods of Master Forgers chronicles the mystery, intrigue and scandal of forgery, often considered the world's most glamorous crime. The history of art and cultural forgery is packed with true-crime stories - both fabled and lesser-known - that are fascinating, illuminating and often bizarre. This book examines the adventures and misadventures of master forgers from antiquity to today, delving into criminal minds driven by an intriguing mixture of geniues, pride, revenge, fame, crime, opportunism, money and power. Art crime expert Noah Charney investigates how and the world's most artful tricksters - often ingenious and charming - succeeded in deceiving the art world. He exposes the tricks of their trade, and describes how they were eventually caught, through shrewd detective work, scientific examination or sheer luck. He also reveals how the art world is, in many ways, complicit, stepping eagerly into the traps laid by these crafty criminals. Welcome to the world of forgery. A word of warning - don't always believe your eyes.

The Streets of Papunya by Vivien JohnsonFrom $42.5
Some of Australia?s most exciting contemporary art comes from the daughters of the ground-breaking Papunya Tula artists of the 1970s, the founding fathers of the desert art movement. Streets of Papunya is the story of the women painters of Papunya today, rising stars of a new art centre called Papunya Tjupi Arts. Among them are some of the first women in the desert to join the original Papunya art movement, who continue Papunya?s rich history as the birthplace of contemporary Indigenous art. Western Desert art expert Vivien Johnson reveals the whole history of Papunya as a site of art production, from Albert Namatjira?s final paintings, executed in Papunya days before his death in 1959, through Papunya?s glory days of the 1970s and ?80s, the dark time when it was known as ?carpetbagging capital of the desert? to its inspirational renaissance, as its leading painters reinvent Papunya painting for the twenty-first century. About the Author Johnson is notable for the publication of several key reference works in the field of contemporary Indigenous Australian art, including Western Desert Artists: A Biographical Dictionary (1995), Lives of the Papunya Tula Artists (2008) and Once Upon a Time in Papunya (2010).
