CAPITAL GUNDAROO RIESLING 2014: Gundaroo Vineyard sits in a picturesque valley, on a north facing slope and is protected from the west by large hills. This beautiful Riesling expresses its sense of place perfectly. On the nose there are pretty white flowers and hints of lime. The perfect linear palate displays vibrant citrus acidity, a touch of minerality and has impressive length. SHAW & SMITH SHIRAZ 2013From $41.99
SHAW & SMITH SHIRAZ 2013: The 2013 is a perfumed Shiraz with aromatics of florals and cherry. The palate shows bright fruit in the red fruits spectrum and spice notes of dried herbs including thyme. Natural tannins and a graphite-like earthiness contribute to a savoury core that underpins the great depth and complexity of this wine. Shaw + Smith one of the producers that have set the Adelaide Hills squarely on the map for spicy Shiraz. Cracked black pepper, meat, raisins, sweet grass, blackberry and blackcurrant. Medium to full bodied, meaty and spicy, plenty of fleshy tannin allied to pan juices, raisins and sweet black fruit. Good finish. Rasp of firm tannin, herbs and raspberry sweetness on exit gives it that little extra push. Nice wine. Stylish. Score: 92 points Gary Walsh - The Wine Front - 23 September 2014
BARONE RISCASOLI CHIANTI CLASSICO RESERVA 2011: Rocca Guicciarda is one of Barone Ricasoli's most storied vineyards. What we love about this wine is that it is so classic (fresh, sappy, graphitey) yet contemporary in the best sense (clean, pure, textured). It's a first-rate example; silky and sweet with subtle oak and notes of dried tea, raspberry and cherry-pit outlined by fine, polished tannins. The finish goes long on lingering flavours of mineral and tobacco. Francesco Ricasoli is obsessed with producing an outstanding Riserva style under this label. This wine delivers just that at a great price.
MOLLYDOOKER CARNIVAL OF LOVE SHIRAZ 2012:#2 position in Wine Spectator's Wine of the Year Awards 2014.Wine of the Year and Shiraz of the Year, at the 2014 Australasian Winestate Awards. You will be blown away by the depth and complexity of this wine. It is a big wine yet remains elegant. There are layers of rich cherry and blackberry fruits, creamy vanilla notes, chocolate and even some pepper and spice. It has great intensity and a silkiness that lingers over the palate. Very deep purple-black in color, the 100% Shiraz, single vineyard 2012 Carnival of Love exudes fragrant notes of warm blackberries, creme de cassis and dried mulberries intermingled with a lovely dried herb undercurrent, lavender, dark chocolate and anise. With a nice structure of medium to firm rounded tannins and a lively acid backbone, this very big, full and rich wine has a very long finish. Drink it now to 2025+.’ - Lisa Perrotti-Brown, www.erobertparker.com ‘Sinewy, lithe and expressive, packing red berry, black cherry and cardamom aromas and flavors into a tightly focused package. The finish expands and powers up, driving a long and meaty finish. Displays muscle and poise. Drink now through 2022.’ - Harvey Steiman, www.winespectator.com
DEEP WOODS RESERVE CHARDONNAY 2013: Hand-picked, whole bunch-pressed and fermented in new and used French oak with lees stirring, and ultimately a selection of the best barrels. The complex bouquet and palate both avoid over the top flourishes, resulting in an elegant, impeccably balanced wine, with white stone fruit and nuances of cashew running through the palate and finish. Winner of the James Halliday Chardonnay Challenge. 98 Points. DEEP WOODS RESERVE CABERNET SAUVIGNON 2012: Colour: Deep ruby red with vivid purple hues. Aroma: This wine has incredible lift and aromatic intensity abounding in concentrated cassis, blueberry and plum fruit flavours; further nuanced by overtones of dark chocolate and star anise. Palate: The palate provides layers of complex and generous varietal flavours including blackberry, plum and cassis. The upfront fruit flavours are well supported by delicately interwoven French oak characters and a savoury complexity. The long and flavoursome finish is punctuated by well rounded tannin ensuring the wine will reward long-term cellaring.  Awards 97 Points James Halliday Australian Wine Companion 2014 MAX SCHUBERT TROPHY Most Outstanding Red Wine in Show, 2014 Royal Adelaide Wine ShowTROPHY Best Cabernet Sauvignon, 2014 Royal Adelaide Wine ShowTROPHY Best Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot or Bordeaux Variety Blend, 2014 Royal Melbourne Wine Awards GOLD Royal Adelaide Wine Show 2014GOLD Royal Melbourne Wine Awards 2014GOLD Perth Royal Wine Show 2014GOLD Margaret River Wine Show 2013
PORT PHILLIP ESTATE QUARTIER PINOT NOIR 2013: If you're drinking Kooyong, Paringa, Scorpo or any other highly quaffable Mornington Pinot, you'll definitely want to check this one out. We're sorry for those of you who already list this as your personal "to watch winery" ... but the secret is out! For under $30, this Pinot Noir is a must try. Winemaker Sandro Mosele meticulously watches over every step from grape selection, to barreling and into the bottle. The result is a wonderful Pinot that has such character and grace that you'll be glad you were along for the ride. It's unmistakably Pinot on the nose with scents of raspberry, black cherry and some crushed dry herbs. In the mouth, it's a touch sapid and savoury, yet soft with bright primary red fruit characters. This wine will have enormous appeal to Pinot lovers tired of forking out the big bucks for a quaffing Pinot.
CLOUDY BAY TE KOKO SAUVIGNON BLANC 2011: Te Koko offers aromas of lemon citrus, bees wax and passionfruit flower. The plate is generous with layers of green mango, white pepper and flint; it’s richly textured but shaped by fresh acidity. Subtle tropical fruit and taut minerality linger on the plush finish. Te Koko is incredibly food friendly, complementing a range of cuisine. We particularly enjoy it with savoury dishes highlighted by fresh herbs or aromatic spice.
MASSOLINO MOSCATO D'ASTI 2013: As far as we can see few make a better example of this sweet, frothy, low alcohol style than Massolino and its cellar master Giovanni Angeli. The only problem is that this producer's boutique-sized production (800 cases) means it sells out at the cellar in a heartbeat. If you need further evidence of just how refreshing and uplifting top-drawer Moscato d'Asti can be-try this (but be quick about it). It's bursting at the seams with sweet juicy pear, green tea and white peach notes, and offers a deliciously refreshing mineral close brought to you by the chalky Serralunga soils.
WOOING TREE PINOT NOIR 2010: Ripe hand picked fruit, gentle winemaking and maturation in French oak have resulted in a complex and powerful wine, with aromas of ripe cherries, raspberries and Black Doris plums, a rich and silky smooth palate with fine grainy tannins to match the fruit. Excellent value, drinking fantastically well now and will develop and cellar for several years.
