Speer and Hitler The Devils Architect DVD from DVDLand. The four part series, starring Sebastian Koch as Albert Speer and Tobias Moretti as Adolf Hitler, explores in detail the relationship between Hitler and his chief architect, Albert Speer. It mixes drama, documentary footage, interviews with eye witnesses and covers the early beginnings, the glory days and the ultimate collapse of the Third Reich, as well as the Nuremberg trials and Speers life in prison and thereafter. This film analyses and unmasks the German architect, Minister for Armaments, war criminal, prisoner and best selling author Albert Speer through a wide reaching biographical narration. It gives insight into the man Albert Speer and his role in the darkest chapter of German history. The son of a middle class Heidelberg family meets Adolf Hitler, the Fuhrer and strikes a pact with the devil in exchange for power, success and recognition. PART 1: GERMANIA: THE MADNESS: Part 1 tells of the rise and fall of Hitlers favourite architect who went on to be his war organiser and, as elite technocrat, was directly responsible for prolonging the war. We begin the story of the Third Reich as it draws to a close: Albert Speer waits for his trial in his Nuremberg prison cell. PART II: NUREMBERG: THE TRIAL: In Part 2 the entire cast of the Nuremberg trials are shown in both recreations and authentic historical footage. The focus of interest is the accused war criminal Speer. Speer had the ability to transcend Hitler even before the end of the trial. He successfully distances himself from the riff raff of the Third Reich, claims not to be part of the inner circle and successfully creates the impression of the remorseful penitent, a sort of Nazi gentleman. PART III: SPANDAU: THE SENTENCE: Part 3 concentrates on Speers twenty years of incarceration at Spandau prison. A building in the heart of Berlin with hundreds of empty cells and only one floor in operation, seven cells were occupied by prominent ex Nazis. These

INVINCIBLE (2001)From $19.95
Invincible 2001 DVD from DVDLand.Based on a true story, this is a compelling tale of simple Jewish man who leaves his village to seek his fortune in Berlin. His naivety is no match for the decadence of pre-war Berlin. The twist is that Zishe (Jouka Ahola) is a strong man, a very strong man. His feats of endurance amaze his boss, Erik-Jan Hanussen (Tim Roth), but Zishe is forced to wear a blonde wig. He can only bare the humiliation so long, and eventually declares his heritage, causing outrage! Tim Roth is at his very best as the creepy cabaret hypnotist, and Udo Kier, gives a bravura showing as the aristocrat, Heldorf. Herzog brilliantly captures the essence of a corrupt regime, and the prices people will pay to survive with it.
