Unfortunately these days, most Australian internet plans cost over $60 a month, which can make a decent dent in your finances if you’re on a budget. Thankfully, it is possible to find some worthwhile plans under this price, if you know where to look.

Unfortunately, there aren’t currently any NBN plans that cost under $60 per month, however there are a handful of providers offering introductory offers for the first six or 12 months that bring the average cost of the first year down to under $720 (the equivalent of $60 per month).

We’ve analysed plans from over 15 providers and hand picked the ones we believe offer the best value, so you don’t have to choose between an affordable or a reliable internet plan.

Cheapest NBN plan under $60

After the first six months, the price goes up to $69.95 which is still a competitive price compared to the average ongoing price of an NBN 25 plan which is just under $76.90 (as of August 2026). Over the first year, this plan costs $665.70 which is the equivalent of $55.48 per month, bringing it down to well under $720 which is the total cost of paying $60 per month for a full year. However, after the first year when the plan costs $69.95, if you’re on a strict budget of under $60 per month, you’ll have to switch to a more affordable plan.

While that’s more than $60 extra per month, the ongoing price is only $1 more than the cheapest plan we’ve seen, making it worth considering long term if you’re looking for a cheap ongoing NBN plan.

Tangerine Value NBN 25 Plan | $42.90p/m (for the first 6 months, then $72.90) | 25Mbps Typical Evening Speeds
Tangerine’s NBN 25 Plan usually costs almost $73 per month, but it’s currently discounted to $42.90 per month for the first six months. While the ongoing price of almost $73 per month is on the more expensive side for an NBN 25 plan, if you’re happy to switch plans after the first six months, this is one of the cheapest options currently available for the first six months, making it worth considering.

Dodo NBN25 Unlimited Plan | $43.99p/m (for the first 6 months, then $73.99) | 25Mbps Typical Evening Speeds
Dodo’s NBN 25 Plan is currently discounted down to $43.99 per month for the first six months before it returns to the ongoing price of $73.99 per month. While $73.99 is clearly over $60 per month, the first year of this plan equals a total of $720, meaning it costs exactly the equivalent of $60 per month over the first year. However if you’re on a strict budget, you’ll have to switch to a cheaper plan after the first year.

Which provider has the best internet deals?

At any given time, there are lots of internet providers offering a wide range of internet deals. In general, you will find that smaller providers are going to offer the best overall discounts. Some of our current favourites are Dodo, Superloop, Spintel and Flip.

Who has the cheapest NBN deal in Australia?

While NBN 12 plans do still exist, not many providers offer them, and they very rarely have introductory offers, so, the cheapest NBN deal is actually an NBN 25 plan. Currently, Spintel’s NBN 25 plan is the cheapest, costing only $41 per month for the first six months. After the first six months, this plan goes up to $69.95 per month and is no longer the cheapest option. In terms of ongoing price, Moose’s NBN 25 plan is the cheapest, costing $44.80 per month for the first six months, and $64.80 per month thereafter. While NBN 25 isn’t all that fast, it’s the only speed tier that has plans under $60 per month. If you need faster speeds, Flip also offers some of the lowest prices across faster speed tiers.

What internet speed do I need?

Every household has different needs, but here’s a general guide:

NBN 25 is typically suitable for one to two people who just need the internet for basic web browsing and streaming on a single screen. It is also the cheapest tier so if you want to keep costs down, NBN 25 is a good option. The next tier, NBN 50, is the most popular speed in Australia and suits households with three to four users who use the internet for tasks like online gaming and multiple video streams.

NBN 100 was traditionally the go-to option for larger households, but in Australia it has been largely overtaken by NBN 500, with many NBN 100 plans automatically upgraded to NBN 500 speeds as of September 2025. NBN 500 offers significantly higher speeds, making it well suited to large households or smaller households with multiple people who regularly use the internet to game or stream in HD or 4K, download large files, work from home or use multiple devices at the same time.

NBN 250 sits between NBN 100 and NBN 500, and is ideal for transferring large work files, downloading games and supporting many simultaneous 4K streams, making it a good option for busy households with demanding internet needs. NBN 1000 is designed for users who want extremely fast downloads and near-instant performance across multiple devices, while NBN 2000 is the newest and fastest tier available on select fibre connections, offering ultra-fast speeds suited to power users, large households with heavy data demands, and businesses that rely on high-performance internet.
