About Samsung's 2026 foldable line up
Samsung's first foldable phones launched in 2019, introducing a completely new smartphone design. Since then, the company has released seven more generations, with the latest Z Flip 8, Z Fold 8 and Z Fold 8 Ultra unveiled on July 22, 2026 and set to officially release on August 14.
The Galaxy Z Flip series is popular for its compact clamshell design, with its longer profile folding neatly into a pocket-sized square. Its cover display also lets you check notifications, see the time and take photos without opening the phone. The Galaxy Z Fold, meanwhile, folds like a book. When closed, it's similar in size to a regular flagship smartphone, but when you unfold it, you get a tablet-sized display that's ideal for activities like streaming, video calls and multitasking that are made difficult by smartphones with smaller screens.
This year, Samsung has shaken things up by splitting the Fold range into two models for the first time. Instead of a single Fold device, there's now the standard Galaxy Z Fold 8 and the premium Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra.
The Galaxy Z Fold 8 features a slimmer design and a smaller (more square) shape, with a 5.5-inch cover display and 7.6-inch main screen, while the Z Fold 8 Ultra keeps the larger format of previous generations with a 6.5-inch cover display and an 8-inch main display.
Pricing starts at $2,699 for the 256GB Galaxy Z Fold 8 and $2,999 for the 256GB Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra. While the standard Fold 8 has slightly smaller displays, the difference is relatively minor, so it still delivers a large, tablet-like experience.
