Recurring monthly payments such as your internet bill can be a hassle and put a strain on your budget, but there are ways you can keep these costs down. If you aren’t already regularly shopping around for a competitive NBN plan, you’re likely missing out on big savings.

New data from WhistleOut has found that 43% of Australians have been on the same internet plan for three or more years, and this figure jumps to 69% for people aged 54 and above. If you’re in the same boat (or even if you have switched plans in the last few years, but not in the last 12 months) now is a great time to shop around and save.

WhistleOut found that the reason many people haven’t switched providers for multiple years is because they didn’t think that changing would result in a “worthwhile saving.” The website explained that while the definition of "worthwhile" varied, almost half of respondents across all ages were aiming for a $40 to $50 per month reduction.

Though a saving of $40 to $50 a month may seem unachievable, you’d be surprised. In particular, if you’re with a larger ‘premium’ provider such as Telstra, simply switching to a smaller provider (and specifically one that offers an introductory discount period), you can easily save $40 or more per month.

Need proof? We’ve tracked down four plans that do exactly that, so if you want to start saving on your internet bill in 2025, here are the best-value NBN options right now:
