Every year, Black Friday is held on the last Friday in November which means that this year, Black Friday falls on Friday, 29 November.
Black Friday has been one of Australia’s biggest sales events for more than half a decade, but according to the latest Consumer Confidence Report from Future Publishing Australia (the publisher of this website), Black Friday has officially overtaken Boxing Day as Australia’s most significant shopping event. Stats show that this year, over 50% of Australians are planning to shop during the Black Friday and Cyber Monday sales, compared to just 32% for Boxing Day sales.
The Black Friday sales offer the perfect opportunity to start your Christmas shopping early and snag some great bargains while things are on sale, and it seems that many people are planning to do just that. Future found that 55% of Aussies plan to start buying their gifts during the sales in the lead up to Christmas to save some money.
In terms of what people are planning to buy this Black Friday, the most sought-after products include big ticket items such as new smartphones, TVs, vacuum cleaners and refrigerators among other household appliances and tech items.
In addition, Aussies also have a range of other items on their shopping lists, such as furniture (32%), sleep products (41%), general toys (51%) and sports accessories (39%). Australians are also planning to spend on self-care, with 69% wanting to book holidays and trips within Australia and 31% looking further afield and hoping to book an overseas trip.
Future’s report also found that the main retailers people are planning to shop with during the sales include JB Hi-Fi, Amazon, The Good Guys, Myer, The Iconic and Asos.
