  6. Appearance: Vibrant plum Nose: Lifted notes of black cherry, mulberries and fresh spices with hints of mocha. Palate: Rich notes of plums and blackcurrants dominate with layers of mocha and spice lingering on the palate. Alcohol: 14.2% Winemaking: Low cropped, hand harvested fruit from the Limestone Coast gave this wine intense, rich flavours. It was crushed and destemmed to small open top fermenters. After 24 hours cold soak to draw out delicate tannins and intense colour, the grapes were hand plunged for six days to extract primary fruit flavours and firm but velvety tannins. The wine was pressed directly to French oak casks for 12 months maturation after which it was lightly fined with egg whites and sent to bottle. Best cellaring for 5 to 10 years.

  15. Sirromet step it up with this more medium-bodied shiraz viognier blend out of Queensland. Aromas of dark fruits, poached apricots and sweet, earthy spices lift from the glass, whilst the palate is quite fruity and elegant, with a ball of dark cherries in the centre of the mouth, a bit of grip to the tannins, and a smooth-ish with a kick of toasted cedar in the tail. This calls for some roast meats for company.

  17. There’s quite a story behind the signature, every year since its inception a member of Yalumba staff, who has made an immense contribution, has been asked to pen their signature whereupon it is immortalised on the label. The combination of Cabernet and Shiraz from the Barossa has resulted in an iconic style of wine that is full bodied and integrated with American oak. This is a wine for the cellar, it has a great future ahead of it but if you have no patience make sure you pair it with a fine cut of steak.

  18. This shiraz from Spier is a bit more 'butch' than their other reds, which means it needs some rare roast meats for company. There's plenty of sweet fruit on the nose and palate in the blackberry and plum spectrum, along with licks of soft exotic spices. The palate is full-bodied and fleshy, with spiced fruit flavours, surprisingly soft tannins and a silky finish. It has 'slip down easy' appeal that is bound to make it popular at parties.

Whether you're classy or edgy, prefer the subtle notes of flowers in bloom or the high-spirited fruity scents, there's a fragrance for you. Perfumes even make an excellent gift. The ancient Egyptians began using perfumes and we have continued that to this day. Fragrances can be inspired from anything — from Burberry's trench coat to the scents that capture seasons or a garden. When selecting a perfume, look for the 'notes' — top notes are smells perceived immediately, middle or heart notes mask the initial impression of the base note (which can be unpleasant at first, then become more pleasant) and the base notes, which appear after the top and middle notes have dissipated. Perfumes even come in various dilutions — parfum or extrait, esprit de parfum, eau de parfum, eau de toilette and eau de cologne, in decreasing dilution.
