  2. Wirra Wirra Church Block Cabernet Sauvignon Shiraz Merlot

Church Block was the first wine the late Greg Trott produced under the Wirra Wirra label back in 1972. He took the name from one of the original vineyards, which runs next to the small Bethany Church (est. 1854) across the road from Wirra Wirra's century old ironstone cellars. Over four decades, the Church Block label has become an Australian favourite. Rich red and black fruits fill the mouth. Raspberry, red currant and plum fruits are balanced with fine sandy tannins and cedar oak. This medium to full bodied wine shows a lovely balance and style in true Church Block character.

  4. Mockingbird Hill Mcr Block Single Vineyard Clare Valley Shiraz 2015 x 6

The MCR Block range is so named by Mockingbird Hill due to its proximity to McRae Wood Road. Surrounded by beautiful old blue gums, the shallow grey and red loam over slate soil produces the most intense and characterful Shiraz of the vintage. This one has complex dark berry fruits and hints of mint and eucalyptus on the palate, while firm tannins and solid but well integrated oak create a full flavoured structural palate with a long finish.

  13. Henschke Hill of Grace Shiraz 2012

99Points James Halliday 98 Huon Hooke 97 Points Campbell Mattinson Australia’s most famous single-vineyard wine, Henschke Hill of Grace 2012 was awarded the hotly contested ‘Wine of the Year’ and ‘Best Shiraz’ titles at the fifth annual Qantas epiQure Halliday Wine Companion Awards ceremony, held on Wednesday night, 2 August in Melbourne. Fifth-generation winemaker, Stephen Henschke was thrilled with the result after only launching the exceptional 2012 vintage of Hill of Grace Shiraz on 1 May 2017. “It is an absolute honour to receive these accolades. Hill of Grace vineyard is a special site. The vineyard is only made up of 4 hectares of shiraz ranging from 70 to over 150 year old vines. The wine really is history in the bottle,” said Stephen. This award acknowledges Stephen’s pioneer ancestor Nicolaus Stanitzki who planted the vineyard in 1860 and his father Cyril, a pioneer of single-vineyard table wines, who produced the first vintage of Henschke Hill of Grace in 1958 when those original vines were already almost 100 years old. Henschke Hill of Grace is the most celebrated of the wines crafted by Stephen and Prue Henschke. Every vintage from the revered single-vineyard Hill of Grace is a limited release, but some are more limited than others. Just one barrel was produced in 2003 with extremely tiny vintages for 2013 and 2014. There was no Henschke Hill of Grace made in 1960, 1974, 2000 and 2011. “It's been worth the wait, and then some, for this is a flawless Hill of Grace. It's an old cliche, but it's unavoidable: it is the ultimate iron fist in a velvet glove. While the fruit remains supreme, there are savoury tannins to support the 50-year cellaring potential of the wine. It is bottled under screwcap, not the elegant Vino-Lok of past vintages, because you want the most secure closure for ultra-long cellaring. The wine? Perfect colour, fragrant dark cherry/berry aromas and flavours, positive tannin and French oak support, great aftertaste.” - 99 Points & Wi

  14. Ashton Hills Sparkling Shiraz 2010

Hailing from the Wendouree Vineyard The 2010 Sparkling Shiraz is drawn from the Clare Valley from grapes of dry grown, low yielding vines, half of which were planted in 1919. Following ageing in old oak for four years the base wine was re-fermented in bottle, creating an exceptional sparkling wine that balances power with finesse. Drink now or cellar for further complexity. Serve chilled “Sparkling shiraz grown on 1919 plantings at Wendouree. Or at least a large-ish part of the wine comes off these vines. It was aged in old oak for four years before being re-fermented in bottle. It was disgorged last August. It’s a particularly elegant version of a sparkling red. It has aged characters but it also seems startlingly fresh. These factors make for an alarmingly quaffable wine; a few glasses just seem to disappear before you know it. Redcurrant, boysenberry, plum, leather and mint. Perhaps a whisper of game. Some tannin too; it certainly feels like there’s good scaffolding here, within a juicy context. It’s fresh, lively and absolutely delicious.” - 93 Points Campbell Mattinson
