  8. This is the second in a series of two guidebooks to Via Ferratas of the Italian Dolomites. (Volume One covers the eastern, northern and central areas of the Dolomites, while Volume Two completes the picture, focusing on the southern, Brenta and Lake Garda areas.)Book Two documents Via Ferrata routes in the major mountain ranges of Civetta, Schiara and Pala as well as those to the west in the Brenta. A significant addition (and, as far as we are aware, not previously published in any English language guidebook) is the inclusion of routes around the northern end of Lake Garda and the Piccole Dolomites north of Vicenza. Here the mountains are generally lower and you can enjoy ferrata climbing over a much extended season, with some routes accessible for most of the year.

This guidebook, Via Ferratas of the Italian Dolomites Volume 2, is the second in a series of two published by Cicerone Press, which now fully replaces the previous Cicerone guidebook, Scrambles in the Dolomites, adding many new routes through the southern, Brenta and Lake Garda areas. Volume two documents southern Dolomites Via Ferrata routes in the major mountain ranges of Civetta, Schiara and Pala as well as those to the west in the Brenta. 10. Ever wondered what your car thinks about you? Or about anything else, for that matter? If so, this autobiography of a 1975 Triumph Dolomite Sprint will go a long way towards satisfying your curiosity. Wittily written, with politically incorrect sideswipes at everything from industrial relations to modern policing, the story is as much about the car's owners as it is about 'Dolly' himself. Yes, Dolly the Dolomite knows it's a girl's name, and he's suffered enough for it over the years, but that's what Roger and Sylvia call him and he's not the type to break the Code of Conduct and reveal his sex to his driver. You don't know about the cars' Code of Conduct? Then you clearly have a lot to learn - so let Dolly be your courteous, informed and entertaining guide to this hitherto secret world. Paul Chiswick resides with his wife in a north Warwickshire village. He has lived and worked in Papua New Guinea and Hong Kong, and lists his interests as classic cars, vigorous exercise, travel and writing. You can read more about him by visiting his website

  13. Northern Italy's famous Alta Via long-distance walking routes are spread across the Dolomites, running roughly north to south and reaching as far as the Austrian border. There are six of these routes, and they increase in difficulty: Alta Via 1 has few exposed sections and is suitable for novice alpine trekkers; AV2 is much more challenging, only suitable for experienced alpine trekkers with a good head for heights, while AVs 3-6 have extended via ferrata sections and considerable exposure. AVs 1 and 2 are described in detail in this guidebook. The 120km AV1 is described over 11 day stages; AV2 covers 160km in 13 days and is more strenuous and technical. Overnight stops are at mountain huts or guesthouses. The demanding AV3-6 routes are described in outline. Now a World Heritage Site, the Italian Dolomites make a first-rate trekking destination. There is an excellent network of paths dotted with welcoming 'rifugi' (mountain huts) in stunning locations, and efficient public transport serving key trekking points.Written by an expert in Italian trekking, with information on the fascinating wartime history of the region, plants and wildlife and also practical considerations such as the best time to go, what to take and hut protocol, this guide offers trekkers all the information they need to enjoy the mountains to the full.About the AuthorGillian Price was born in England but has lived in Venice for many years.
