  3. Appearance: Medium to full red with youthful vibrancy. Nose: The nose of this wine shows balanced oak contributing cinnamon and nutmeg, overlaying the ripe blood-plum fruit of Merlot. Palate: Medium bodied with silky smooth texture and long tannins. The excellent persistence and soft acidity make it a wonderful food wine. Food: Full flavoured poultry, such as twice-cooked duckling and modern Asian style cuisine. Cellaring: This wine is very approachable on release and will reward medium term cellaring. Alcohol: 14% Winemaking: Careful fruit selection from grapes grown on our Hamilton block in southern Coonawarra is the source of this wine. Vines were planted in 1987. Our aim is to make a stylish Merlot with great depth of flavour and structure, in which oak plays an important, but not prominent, role in the structure of the wine.

  4. Appearance: Medium to full red with youthful crimson hues. Nose: Complex choc-mint nose with integrated subtle oak, the Cabernet Sauvignon imparts a backbone of cassis overlayed with plum fruits from Merlot. Palate: A fine round palate showing fruit sweetness and medium bodied in structure, it has fine, silky tannins showing elegance and restraint. Food: Try it with any medium to full flavoured vegetarian or meat dishes. Cellaring: Excellent on release and will age over the next 6-8 years. The mint overtones are expected to remain and complex further with cedar characters as the wine matures. Alcohol: 14% Winemaking: As with all Leconfield wines, our philosophy is to produce wines displaying both depth and elegance where oak complexes and enhances the fruit but is not allowed to dominate. 2012 produced excellence in both Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot with yields being quite low, ranging from 5.0-7.5 tonnes/ha. Oak maturation was in a blend of new and used hogsheads with several workings to soften the tannins and fill-out the flavour. The wine received a light egg fining and one filtration before bottling.

  5. Concentrated, ripe plum and blackberry fruit with layers of black pepper and spice, integrated toasty vanillin oak with a concentrated and complex bouquet. Concentrated fruit flavours follow onto the palate with layers of spice, cherries and chocolate with spicy intense fruit giving dominating impressions, combining fruit with well-balanced grainy tannins that complement a fine acid length and produces a very special wine of great complexity. Picked as the best of vintage Coonawarra Shiraz, Riddoch Reserve Shiraz is a premium step above the rest and represents the best Coonawarra has to offer . Powerhouse fruit, balanced well integrated French and American oak with a full bodied finish, classic world class Coonawarra Shiraz, this wine can be consumed now but has appeal as a great cellaring proposition for the next 10 years and beyond.

  11. Petaluma remains one of the true icons of the Adelaide Hills and this wine blends the best Cabernet and Merlot from Coonawarra to produce a wine that draws on the best of the varieties. We look forward to this release with feverish anticipation. It’s loaded with blackcurrant, and red fruits, as well as complexing oak characters. The palate shows all that is great about the blend, vivid cassis and redcurrant before a poised and wonderfully weighted palate with great concentration and tannins. A perfect candidate for the cellar or the ideal wine for roast lamb.

  12. This Coonawarra Cabernet Merlot displays dark cherry and plum aromas complemented with mocha and vanilla oak notes. Ripe fruit dominates the palate with plum, mulberry and dark cherry flavours elegantly integrated with vanilla oak. Best appreciated while the vibrant fruit flavours are still fresh, though will still reward cellaring for several additional years. Cellar for up to five years from the vintage.

  13. It’s not often the word Merlot is prefixed by the word Treasures, but such is John Quarisa’s belief in the variety, that he’s dedicated a label to it and sourced the best possible fruit from Coonawarra to fulfil his vision. This is all about soft fruit generosity on the palate. It shows sweet berry and plum with gentle, yielding tannins. It’s balanced and intense and partners really well with nicely charred barbecued meats, particularly ribs.

  14. We’d like to see more people drinking Merlot, and if anyone can convince the masses it’s Petaluma, who take the best fruit from Coonawarra to make an approachable style. Varietal and fragrant with plum, mulberry and spice this is all about generosity on the palate. It’s soft on entry and has a vivid fruit delivery of plum, spice and chocolate before tightly knit tannins flood the finish with persistence. Nicely versatile, this wine drinks well on it’s own or with gourmet sausages as well as hard cheeses.

  15. Petaluma has a single-minded focus on producing wines of uncommon quality, and a respectful sense of place. Fruit for this extremely limited Merlot is sourced from a small patch of dry grown, low yielding, vertically trained vines. Painstakingly hand pruned and hand picked, fastidiously coaxed through fermentation and 22 months oak maturation, this is &a "proper"; Merlot. Full-bodied, opulent, plum pudding and mocha.
