  2. This wine really is something special if you are as nutty about Pinot Noir as we are. From 30-year-old vines this wine is all about delicacy and fragrance, subtlety and finesse. You’ll find lots of savoury and cherry aromas with earth before a vital palate of red fruits and soft tannins with a ridiculously long finish.

  3. Yarra Valley Pinot is kicking some serious goals of late and this is a prime example of the potential of the variety in 'the valley'. Think bright fruit, seductive perfume, accessible yet complex with a fine acid line running through. The fruit for this wine comes primarily from their Yarra Junction Vineyard (70%) with the remainder from the famous Dixons Creek Vineyard. Classic Pinot fruit on the nose, with aromas of cherry, berries and integrated oak. Silky and refined with a concentrated richness, this is a Pinot of persuasive power.

  4. 'Delicacy and power' – 96 Points Campbell Mattinson Limited stocks The Wanderer is made by Andrew Marks who is based at his family vineyard, Gembrook Hill, in the Upper Yarra Valley. Single vineyard wine from Yellingbo, at the Southern end of the Yarra Valley. Cane pruned MV6 clone on volcanic red soil with Nth Eastern aspect at 200m elevation. 20% whole bunches. Cold soak and fermentation in open fermenters. Selected yeast. Hand plunged. Large format oak. 30% new Damy Alliers French oak for 11 months on lees. Tasted frequently touched rarely. “It’s firm, spicy, tangy and sure-footed but what sets it apart, or above, is the extra step up in intensity. It maintains its usual light-ish colour but the flavour impresses that bit more; driven here by impressions of cranberry and red cherry, fennel, undergrowth, orange rind and round-after-round of dry spice. The great thing about The Wanderer Upper Yarra Pinot Noir is that it’s delicate, well-powered and impressively persistent at once. Delicacy and power; there’s your combination. This 2015 is the perfect exhibit of what this wine does so well.” – 96 Points Campbell Mattinson

  14. The Vinoque label is used by De Bortoli for their small batch, experimental wines. Normally only sold at cellar door, we've been very lucky to snaffle up a few of the wines here at Cracka with this superb value Pinot Noir amongst the highlights. From what was a 11/10 vintage in the Yarra, this is juicy yet quite complex, the wine surprisingly serious and pinosity without losing that trademark Yarra fruit.

  15. This is a very full and fruity style of pinot noir from Robert Oatley, and it comes in at a very good price for Yarra Valley fruit. Red fruits in the wild strawberry and raspberry spectrum burst out of the glass, along with a hints of earthy savouriness and rose florals. The medium-bodied palate is an explosion of sweet fruit, supported by fine and friendly tannins, bright acidity, and a decent spiced finish. This will drink well over the next 3 to 5 years with some cured meats.

  16. Here we have an easy-drinking, 'happy go lucky' pinot noir that is extremely smooth and glugable. Aromas of red berries, plums and soft, earthy spices run around the glass, whilst the palate is medium-bodied and friendly, with a fleshy plummy middle, silky tannins, and a soft, juicy fruity finish. Would be great with pappardelle and duck ragu.

  17. Domaine Chandon are probably better known for their sparkling wines, but their still ones merit a bit of attention. This is quite a smooth, juicy number, and shows scents of bright red and dark berries on the nose, with hints of toasted cedar and soft spice. The palate is quite medium-bodied, with delicate fruity flavours, gentle tannins, and a sweetly-fruited finish. Great for drinking over the next 2 to 4-years with a duck and rosemary pizza.

  18. The Squitchy Lane range shows the Yarra Valley at its best at a price that is affordable. This Pinot is a brilliant example of an everyday drinking style that is varietal and regional. We love this wine as it shows all the bright berry fruit we’ve come to expect from the Yarra, not to mention an attractive perfume and a hypnotic acid line. It’s spicy, sexy and sensory and pairs superbly with intensely savoury dishes such as wild mushroom ragu or game dishes.
