  12. Jeffrey Milstein is fascinated with how similar forms repeat themselves in distinctive ways. Here, he examines classic Palm Springs trailer park homes, each composed of the same basic units the box-like house, the flanking carport, and the patio shelter. Photographing each one from exactly the same viewpoint, he shows how the owners have personalised their dwellings in a delightful range of architectural styles from Chinese to early Egyptian to Desert Modern. Parked on small plots with their narrow ends facing the street, these tiny homes were made of surplus sheet metal using technology developed in aircraft factories during WWII. Over time, people remodelled them, creating decorative facades and in some cases adding elements of architectural styles found in more affluent neighbourhoods. In documenting these older mobile homes, including the Blue Skies Village Trailer Park founded in 1955 by Bing Crosby, Milstein reveals how we shape our world to reflect our dreams and aspirations. About the Author Jeffrey Milstein is a photographer, architect, graphic designer, and pilot. His photographs have been exhibited and collected throughout the United States and Europe. Born in Los Angeles, he frequently returns to there to photograph.

  18. Buckle up as Douglas Keister takes you for a decidedly retro ride in the world of diminutive travel trailers in "Teardrops and Tiny Trailers". The demand for vintage trailers - the smaller the better - has risen dramatically in recent years, with the most in-demand trailers being 'teardrops', first manufactured in the 1930s and containing just indoor sleeping space and an outdoor exterior kitchen. Also profiled in the book are 'canned ham' trailers, whose shape resembles the profile of a can of ham; small-size examples of America's most beloved vintage trailer, the Airstream; minuscule gypsy caravans in Europe; and, fiberglass trailers made in Canada. It features two hundred colour photographs that showcase these trailers' sleek exteriors, retro-styled interiors, and, in many cases, the restored classic cars that tow them. "Teardrops and Tiny Trailers" includes a resource section chock-full of places to locate vintage trailers, clubs to join, and rallies to attend.

  19. Buckle up for a trip back to the days of the classic travel trailers, from the 1910s through the 1960s. Over 260 brilliant color photos capture these original homes-away-from-home in all their details, including views of their interiors. The informative text provides details of the travel trailer's rise, which was fueled by both improving automobiles and roadways. Once the "everyman" had a car and a road, he bought a trailer and took the family camping. Beginning in 1880, horse drawn caravans were used to get away from home. However, when caravans were hitched to cars, the travel trailer was born. "Tin Can Tourism" was all the rage by the 1920s. Shown here are many of the sweet results of trailer camping over the decades, including early tent trailers, Hammer Blow's honeymoon trailer, the Zeppelin-shaped Road Chief, the ever popular Airstream, and many more. To sweeten the deal, these trailers are shown with some wonderful classic cars.
