Dyson Airwrap ID Multi-Styler

This updated version of Dyson’s iconic Airwrap, first released locally in Australia in August 2024, is available now with an Australian recommended retail price of A$849. Drawing on Dyson’s well‑known airflow styling technology, it introduces Bluetooth connectivity and app‑based customisation to make styling outcomes more repeatable and tailored to individual hair types.

At its heart, the i.d. edition connects to the MyDyson™ app via Bluetooth. After answering a short quiz about your hair—its texture, length and styling preferences—the tool automatically configures a curling or styling sequence. That includes timings for airflow, heat and cool‑shot to match your profile, delivering consistent results without you having to manually manage each step. 

The styling system makes use of Dyson’s Digital Motor V9, spinning at around 110 000 rpm to generate the Coanda effect—airflow that attracts and wraps hair around the barrel using air rather than extreme heat. Intelligent Heat Control registers temperature more than 40 times a second and keeps it under 150 °C to prevent damage and preserve shine. 

Included in the box are six main attachments: a conical Airwrap™ barrel—tapered to a 20 mm tip—for tighter curls starting closer to the hair root; a 40 mm long barrel for looser, bouncier waves; a soft smoothing brush designed for gentle shaping; a large round volumising brush that directs airflow deeply into the hair to create body; a dryer + flyaway smoother for styling and taming stray strands; and a fast‑drying attachment to take hair from wet to damp or dry before styling. Also provided are a presentation case and a filter‑cleaning brush

This variant weighs in at just 0.6 kg and offers a cable length of approximately 2.675 m. It features three heat settings and three airflow speeds, together with negative‑ion generators to reduce static and smooth the hair surface. Airflow can reach up to around 13.5 litres per second. It supports multiple power ratings at 220–240 V and uses about 1 300 W. 

In practice, this tool covers a wide range of styling modes. It serves as a dryer, a curling wand, a straightener and a smoother. With the app’s guided tutorials and timed routines, it simplifies styling—especially for those less familiar with multi‑attachment tools. According to recent reviews, the drying time has been significantly improved over previous generations, attributed to more powerful airflow. The new straightening plate attachment also offers smoother alignment of frizzy hair with less reliance on direct high heat. 

Several reviews note that, while it comes at a premium price, the combination of adaptive tech, improved styling speed, and gentler handling of hair fibre make it a transformative tool for those who use all or most attachments regularly. 

Although many of Dyson’s Airwrap® styling systems are optimal for straight or wavy hair types, the i.d. variant—especially the Straight+Wavy bundle—is engineered for these hair textures. Frizzy or curly hair may require more patience or alternate configurations, but the same Coanda airflow method continues to minimise heat damage compared to traditional styling irons.
