Dyson’s cordless vacuum cleaners changed the way we clean our homes, quickly becoming one of the most popular small appliance brands worldwide. After the V7 and the V8, the Dyson Cyclone V10 is a massive leap forward. Then came the V11 range a year later… and it proved that Dyson still had more to offer in terms of engineering feats. And the best in the V11 range are the Outsize model.

At the time of writing, the Dyson V11 Outsize is the best of the best in the entire Dyson V-series line-up… well, that’s until we find out how much more powerful the recently announced Dyson V15 Detect is over the V11 range. Until then, though, the V11 Outsize is king.

It should be noted that Dyson has rebranded its Outsize range. Only one model now exists under the V11 Outsize moniker – the Dyson V11 Outsize Pro. The other Outsize handstick is now just the Dyson Outsize Total Clean, with the company having removed any numbering from it. They’re both essentially the same – the only difference is the number of additional attachments they ship with. The V11 Outsize Pro has a total of 9 attachments, including 2 cleaning heads and 7 tools, while the Total Clean has 7 attachments in the box (2 cleaning heads and the brand-new Hair Screw tool for tangle-free hair/fur cleaning).

When it comes to performance, the V11 Outsize can outdo any of the other Dyson models. The Hyperdymium motor inside spins at up to 125,000rpm, offering up to 40% more suction than the V10 range, although you still get the same 60-minute fade-free battery life from a single charge. Where it beats out its own siblings is in its bin capacity.

Gone are the days when you’ll need to empty the canister after each use. The V11 Outsize boasts a 1.97L bin that’s 150% bigger than the standard 0.76L canister in the other V11 models. The Outsize also comes with a wider cleaning head – this larger footprint means you can finish vacuuming your entire home quicker.

While the bigger bin and a larger attachment are great advantages, they also make the handstick heavier than the other V11 models. Moreover, the innovative digital display and the new features also mean the V11 Outsize Pro is the most expensive Dyson yet (at least until the V15 range arrives on shelves). The V11 Outsize Pro carries an eye-watering price tag of AU$1,349 – if your budget doesn’t stretch that far, you can always shop around to see if you can find it for less, especially during a big sale.

Verdict: The Dyson V11 Outsize proves that size does matter and that bigger can be better. If you can afford it, this handstick will be able to replace any traditional corded vacuum cleaner.
