  9. The Crawford River vineyard lies at the alluvial edge of a volcanic lava flow. The 11.5 Ha vineyard has its roots in an unusually complex, mineral-rich soil base. Gravelly, friable, basalt loam overlays permeable clay which in turn lies above a limestone base created by an ancient, risen seabed. Each block is separately hand picked and processed individually. 2017 was 100% whole bunch pressed to stainless steel. 3-4 day settle in tank prior to racking and inoculation with PDM yeast. Cool fermentation to dry in 100% stainless steel. Approximately 6 weeks on lees post fermentation. After being blended, the wine was sulphur adjusted and protein stabilised with Bentonite and cold stabilised. When ready, the wine is filtered in preparation for bottling, which is done in a single batch to ensure consistency, integrity and ease for the winemaker! Sterile filtered. Bright, fresh floral elements are the primary impression given by this young wine. Spice and texture underpin the soft palate, which shows even structure with lively acidity. Elegant throughout, with hints of oyster shell and citrus peel.

  10. One to cellar….. ‘this is a top-flight No. 1’ - 97 Points James Halliday ‘Such impressive structure and quality here’ – 96+ Points Gary Walsh Classic claret-style. This is the blend on which Yarra Yering’s reputation was initially built. Always medium-bodied and low in alcohol suggesting delicacy, but nonetheless is a sleeping powerhouse of precision, intensity & concentration that demands a requisite amount of time in bottle to unfurl & allow the drinker in. Principally cabernet sauvignon with merlot, malbec and a little petit verdot added, it swallows every ounce of its 100% new oak and sniggers “Is that all you’ve got?” Consistently of the highest order in its balance and depth of flavour. “Blackcurrant, fresh blackberry, violet notes, tobacco and cedar, and a slightly twiggy but attractive varietal top note. Medium bodied, firm acidity and a sluice of powdery – you might call them gravelly – tannin that runs long and persists on the finish. Depth of fruit and black tea and tobacco savouries, the oak beautifully integrated and all just so. Such impressive structure and quality here. Superb. Will cellar a treat. Touch and go for a massive 97 points.” – 96+ Points Gary Walsh “A cabernet sauvignon-dominant blend, with lesser amounts of merlot, malbec and petit verdot. Excellent hue and depth; this is a top-flight No. 1, fully reflecting the excellent vintage; the flavours are bold and luscious, yet the wine never threatens to lose its shape; first there is the multi-variety complexity, second the perfectly balanced ripe tannins. It almost seems superfluous to mention the new French oak, but it, too, helps weld the wine into its utterly coherent whole.” – 97 Points James Halliday Have with beef bourguignon Drink to 2040 Critics’ Rating : 97 Points James Halliday / 96+ Points Gary Walsh 13.5% alc/vol Cork

  18. PROFILE Domaine Marcel DEISS is located in Bergheim, a small village nestling in the heart of the wine region of Alsace, equidistant from the northern and southern boundaries of the region. Current winemaker Jean-Michel DEISS was born into a long-established family of wine growers, living at BERGHEIM since 1744. The Domaine consists of 26 hectares (52 acres) of hillside vineyards spread over 9 communes and approximately 20 kilometres. The extreme variation in conditions of production at the Domaine have led Jean-Michel DEISS to seek to express in each wine the three factors that make a wine complete: the grape variety, the vintage and the terroir. Jean-Michel DEISS commitment and personal integrity have led him to the conclusion that, as in most other parts of France, it is the dedicated nurturing of vines in specific terroirs which produces wines of unique distinction, originality, and authenticity. TASTING NOTES Lemony, mineral and deep white, a great wine. Brilliant yellow dress, with aromas of zests and white fruits. The pleasant taste presents notes of lemon, pineapple and white peach. The surprising liveliness is balanced by the depth and this harmony is perfectly reproduced in the mouth. Liquor Act Liquor Act 2007.
