  5. One to cellar….. ‘this is a top-flight No. 1’ - 97 Points James Halliday ‘Such impressive structure and quality here’ – 96+ Points Gary Walsh Classic claret-style. This is the blend on which Yarra Yering’s reputation was initially built. Always medium-bodied and low in alcohol suggesting delicacy, but nonetheless is a sleeping powerhouse of precision, intensity & concentration that demands a requisite amount of time in bottle to unfurl & allow the drinker in. Principally cabernet sauvignon with merlot, malbec and a little petit verdot added, it swallows every ounce of its 100% new oak and sniggers “Is that all you’ve got?” Consistently of the highest order in its balance and depth of flavour. “Blackcurrant, fresh blackberry, violet notes, tobacco and cedar, and a slightly twiggy but attractive varietal top note. Medium bodied, firm acidity and a sluice of powdery – you might call them gravelly – tannin that runs long and persists on the finish. Depth of fruit and black tea and tobacco savouries, the oak beautifully integrated and all just so. Such impressive structure and quality here. Superb. Will cellar a treat. Touch and go for a massive 97 points.” – 96+ Points Gary Walsh “A cabernet sauvignon-dominant blend, with lesser amounts of merlot, malbec and petit verdot. Excellent hue and depth; this is a top-flight No. 1, fully reflecting the excellent vintage; the flavours are bold and luscious, yet the wine never threatens to lose its shape; first there is the multi-variety complexity, second the perfectly balanced ripe tannins. It almost seems superfluous to mention the new French oak, but it, too, helps weld the wine into its utterly coherent whole.” – 97 Points James Halliday Have with beef bourguignon Drink to 2040 Critics’ Rating : 97 Points James Halliday / 96+ Points Gary Walsh 13.5% alc/vol Cork

  6. This is the second style of wine to be produced under the ‘HEAD RED’ range and like the ‘HEAD RED’ Shiraz is essentially a barrel de-classification. Always picked on the cusp of ripeness with some whole-bunches retained for the fermentation which is more of an infusion than an extraction. Grenache is sourced from Barossa 'Old Vine' and 'Survivor Vine' vineyards in: Light Pass (1968), Greenock (1962), Williamstown (1968) and Krondorf (1942). The Mourvedre component comes from Seppeltsfield and the Shiraz from Krondorf. Matured for one year in old 500L puncheons. Bottled without filtration or fining. For immediate drinking and can be chilled lightly. “I suspect it’s mainly Grenache, or certainly tastes like it. This is a perennial bargain in the Australian winescape. Raspberry juice, musk, spice and perfume. Medium bodied, supple and succulent, ultra-fine powdery tannin, clean acidity, a touch of meatiness, with a smattering of dried herb and brick dust tannin cleaning up the finish. Flat out delicious: a bonus point for that.” – 93 Points Gary Walsh

  11. Attractive floral and fruit aromatics of rose petal, cranberry and strawberry combine with notes of a more savoury spectrum of pine and a clove-like spice. The palate displays the depth and richness of the 2016 vintage. Sinewy tannin, intense black cherry flavour and an excellent flow lead into an energetic and long finish. Ray Jordan, Top 100 An excellent producer from down in Mornington making several outstanding pinots. This one hits it mighty well with its fragrant aromas and smooth, exquisitely balanced palate profile. 93 points Ray Jordan
