  5. Mesh Eden Valley RieslingVARIETAL Riesling VINTAGE 2017 REGION Eden Valley, Australia ABV% 12.5% FOOD PAIRING NOTES Natural oysters, or fresh rocket and pomegranate saladPROFILE From the beginning of the joint adventure in 2002, two subtly different winemaking methods were agreed upon to achieve the desired outcome, which is to make a wine with a strong citrus flavour and slight mineral profile, typical of the Eden Valley region. The winemakers were looking for long, rich flavours with a greater emphasis on power, generosity, persistence and texture than is normally seen. The grapes are "pedantically divided" by selectively hand picking alternate rows into yellow and blue buckets on the same day. The two separate parcels are then crushed at different locations and the finished components and combinations jointly assessed post-vintage, amid lively debate, to determine the final blend. TASTING NOTES The wine is green and vibrant in appearance, with aromas of zesty lemon and grapefruit. An intense and generous palate, with lively citrus fruit and hints of talc. The wine finishes clean and dry with refreshing, long acidity. As is the case with all great Eden Valley Rieslings, mesh will age gracefully and reliably into a mature wine under the Stelvin closure. Liquor Act Liquor Act 2007. It is against the law to sell or supply alcohol to, or to obtain alcohol on behalf of, a person under the age of 18 years. Lic No. LIQP770016424

  14. Eden Valley riesling as quintessential as it could be. Aromas of lemon, grapefruit, honeysuckle and beeswax. Characteristically, it's still a little stern on the palate. It tastes of the place it's from. The citrus flavours are muted, but the underlying depth is evident, the slatey acidity guiding it along. Secure under screwcap, it feels as though in a cool cellar it could live forever." 95 points, James Halliday Wine Companion, August 2017."

  18. John Vickery is the acknowledged old master of Riesling in Australia, with an illustrious career spanning over fifty years, culminating in the extraordinary awards tally of more than fifty Trophies and over four hundred Gold Medals. The Rieslings he crafted from Watervale (in the Clare Valley) and Eden Valley (in the Barossa) stand tall as the epitome of this most majestic grape variety, each with a unique South Australian and sub-regional thumbprint. Vickery wines are made in collaboration with talented winemaker and family friend Philip Lehmann, so that John’s winemaking methods and knowledge will be preserved and passed on for generations to come, for the benefit of all lovers of classic Australian Riesling. As with the ’16 vintage, fruit was sourced from the Zander, Mason and Riley family vineyards in Eden Valley. John and Phil were really impressed with the fruit quality of Terry and Jan Riley’s site, and chose to take on an extra parcel - from their thirty-six year old ‘House Block’. Following picking, in the first week of April, the grapes were pressed and fermented at our Barossa winery, with the usual emphasis on minimal handling. Each parcel was kept separate until the final blending where only the best components were included for the 2017 Eden Valley Riesling Pale straw with green flecks, Well-perfumed with delicate floral and a wonderful purity of flavour, fine notes of lemon blossom and mineral lime citrus. Lively and precise.
