  1. This Secret Selection Shiraz was made from old vines from Eden Valley, producing a great wine with good aging potential. Expect lifted Shiraz berry characters on the nose with notes of vanilla and blackberries. The palate has medium weight and complexity, treated with good oak maturation and dry tannins with a long and generous finish.

  2. This cheeky little chardy celebrates a bit of family history, but it is made in a thoroughly modern style. It's fulsome and fruity with moderate oak usage, and shows smells of ripe peaches, honeysuckle and buttered toast on the nose, with hints of lemon zest. The palate is light to medium-bodied, with peaches and cream flavours, poised acidity, and a smooth, slinky, fruit-driven finish. It's great value, and would be awesome with some BBQ chicken wings. 95/100 & Gold medal - 2015 Royal QLD Wine Show

  3. The team behind Sons of Eden are serious stars in the making and if they aren’t one of the hottest Barossa names in a decades’ time then I will eat my hat. But seriously, young guns with serious intent is what we love here at Cracka and these guys have it in spades. The Remus Shiraz comes from grand Eden Valley vineyards, matured in French Oak and is my favourite from the SOE range with its beautifully poised spicy, dark fruit flavours with creamy oak. Far from a blockbuster it is a restrained Barossa Shiraz and a beautiful one at that.

  4. Yalumba are smart operators when it comes to their vinous offerings and as well as making one of the country’s finest Viogniers, they also make this more affordable version from the upper reaches of the Eden Valley. It has a rich and opulent nose and so completely varietal with apricot and peach, a touch of citrus and a lift of spice. The mouthfeel is the key, showing Viognier’s trademark texture which is unctuous without being cloying. It finishes with a refreshing vein of acidity making it a perfect counterpoint for a creamy chicken dish.

  5. Yalumba Distinguished Sites is a family of exceptional wines, carefully sourced and masterfully crafted to capture the true essence of specific, special sites within the Barossa. These wines are intriguing, distinct and true to the unique parcel of dirt that inspired their creation, while remaining rooted firmly in the heart of the Barossa. Appearance: Full depth crimson red in colour. Nose: The aroma opens with the fresh brightness of lifted spices, blackcurrants, cherries and lavender-violet florals and subtle white pepper hints. Palate: A medium to full bodied wine packed with dark fleshy cherry fruits and anise. This is an elegant wine with a tight framework of chalky tannins that exhibit its Eden Valley provenance. Food: Match with roast duck. Cellaring: Great now but will also reward 5 to 7 years in the cellar.

  6. This is one of Australia’s most awarded and lauded examples of Sauvignon Blanc you could in fact call it the trophy magnet. Since its first release in 1981 it’s won seven trophies,18 Gold medals and numerous other accolades. Part of the wine is matured in French oak to aid complexity but we are more in love with the aromatics of lavender, florals, spice, grass and passionfruit. It’s rich and full flavoured while retaining apple like acidity. Like taking a bite from an apple in the Garden of Eden.

  7. You have to admire Yalumba for backing themselves with viognier. They have been the trailblazers with the variety in Australia, and the Virgilius has an almost cult following, and is seen as a benchmark for the style. Ripe apricots and assorted stone fruits leap out of the glass, along with a decent whiff of fresh ginger and some honeysuckle florals. The palate is fulsome and rich at 14% alcohol, with lush stone fruit flavours, a velvety, honeyed mouthfeel, and a decent zip of citrusy acidity cleaning up the long, sauntering finish. Great with spicy dishes, or butter-poached shellfish.

  8. Corey Ryan and Simon Cowham are true Sons of Eden, cutting their teeth at companies such as Henschke, Penfolds, Heggies and Pewsey Vale. Firmly entrenched in the Barossa and its sub-regions, the Marschall is a tribute to the legendary pioneering Barossa Vigneron and local Chuck Norris look-a-like David Marschall. This wine packs a serious punch, deep crimson this wine bursts out of the glass with berry compote aromas, accentuated by lifted violets and dried herbs and spicy oak. Perfect with a marinated grilled lamb (judo) chop.

  11. Curiously, you don't see all that much Pinot Gris in the Eden Valley, which makes this something of a rarity in the scheme of things. If any could make a good go of it though, surely Mountadam would be the ones, with the newish team up there making some very smart booze indeed. The Mountadam Pinot Gris is a rather generous style of Gris, with a quite full bodied and full flavoured form that shows lovely pear fruit and a crisp acid backbone. Lots to like here really.

  12. Tim Smith sees Viognier as a varietal with a sturdy point of difference. He believes that it combines all the great features of other Australian white wines; it has good palate weight like Chardonnay or Semillon, wonderful acid structure like Riesling, and lifted aromatics like Sauvignon Blanc. It's not essential to eat with this wine however it’s an easy wine to open with a broad range of foods. Try pork ribs marinated in sesame oil and toasted fennel seeds with a radicchio salad, although not too strong a balsamic dressing as it tends to mask the delicacy of the wine. Or an old classic; slow roasted chicken, stuffed with lemons and garlic, rubbed with oregano and served with roasted winter vegetables.
