  8. We've said it before, and we'll say it again - riesling is one of the best value wines around, and this one further supports our claim. It has been snowed-under with gold medals, and it will only improve over the next 5-years. Aromas of lemons, limes and jasmine florals float out of the glass, whilst the palate is light, bright and zesty, with refreshing limy flavours, frisky acidity, and a dry, lip-licking finish. It's only around 11.5% alcohol, and would be great with some Vietnamese rice paper rolls.

  9. Easy drinking and toothsome is pretty much the theme with this bright, grapy, spritzy number from Deakin Estate. Aromas of apples, grapes and musk florals leap out of the glass, whilst the palate is sweet and delicately fizzy, with some lemony acidity cleaning up the finish. It's great value, and more of a dessert wine than a table wine, so try it with some cupcakes.

Perfect with roast duck or pork, this wine may be enjoyed now or confidentially cellared. “Gently smoky, oak-kissed aroma, the wine is bright and fresh, lively and elegant, but also powerful, intense and long. Concentrated red and dark cherry flavours. Delicious fruit.” – 95 Points Huon Hooke “Hand-picked, clones D2V5, D2V6 and D5V12, 80% whole berry/destemmed, 20% whole bunches, open-fermented, 22 days on skins, matured in French oak (18% new) for 10 months. Deeply coloured; the bouquet is complex, with multi-spices and an attractive, warm undergrowth, the palate adding depth and texture. Black cherry and plum fruit is lengthened by fine, persistent tannins. Well deserved gold medal Tasmanian Wine Show '17.” – 96 Points & Special Value Wine James Halliday “Another essay in rich, dark fruited pinot noir from Bream Creek, this has a bright core of dark cherry fruit, blackberry and raspberry compote and a sheen of fine spices and gentle herbs. The palate’s silky, refined, soft and lithe, with quiet juicy deep tannins that slide along effortlessly. Lovely purity and balance here”. — 95 points Nick Stock

  11. 'trappings you would expect from a $30 wine, not $21.' 95 Points & Top Wines of 2017 James Halliday Hoddles Creek Estate was established in 1997 when the D'Anna family decided to establish a vineyard on the property that has been in the family since 1960. The vineyard sits astride Gembrook road and adjacent Hoddles Creek. Its steeply sloping blocks prohibit mechanical harvesting, with both vineyards being hand pruned and harvested. All our wines, which are single vineyard, estate grown, are made in our 300 tonne winery, constructed for the 2003 vintage. The split-level winery has a barrel store located three meters underground. Hoddles Creek Estate is planted with 10ha of pinot noir (five clones), 6 ha of chardonnay, 1ha each of sauvignon blanc, merlot and cabernet sauvignon, and 1.5ha of pinot gris. All fruit is hand-picked in the morning and immediately de-stemmed and lightly crushed into the press. No enzymes are used; instead the juice is allowed to settle naturally. After a select period of time, some of the juice was inoculated with cultured yeast then transferred to wood for fermentation. The wine is then left on lees for approximately 11 months, with fortnightly battonage. Just before bottling all clones are blended, cold stabilized, fined and filtered. “Ripe grapefruit, peach, almond nougat, fennel, a dusting of spice, slight struck match. Light and fresh, good burst of peach and citrus, crunch of limey acidity, some flinty texture, and a gently viscous and nougat tinged aftertaste. It has length and flavour, and feels open for play straight away, though showed even better the next day. Like this a lot. Touch and go for 94 points.” - 93+ Points Gary Walsh “Don't be deceived by the relatively light colour, this is is a pinot that has the trappings you would expect from a $30 wine, not $21. It has a large core of red fruits wrapped in foresty/spicy/earthy tannins. Its future is gold-plated, and will richly repay cellaring.– 95 Points & Top Wines of 20
