  7. 95 Points & 5 Stars Huon Hooke 95 Points Gary Walsh The Naked Run Clare Valley Riesling was named ‘The First’ as it was the first wine produced under the Naked Run label. The 2017 vintage was their thirteenth vintage of this wine. Made from 100% Clare Valley free run juice, the fruit was sourced from a single vineyard located at Sevenhill in the heart of the Clare Valley. Their approach to making Riesling is careful management in the vineyard to create a healthy balanced canopy, then with minimal winemaking influence trying to capture their unique microclimate. The vineyard is 475 metres above sea level, in a saddle at Sevenhill. This single block is planted to Riesling clone GM198 on red-grey loam over slate/shale subsoil. It has an easterly aspect with east-west row orientation and vertical shoot positioned trellis. “Very light colour, with dusty mineral, dried herb and subtle lemon aromas, the palate crisp and lean, lively and dry, refreshing and light. A wine of real refinement albeit on the leaner side. But it has length. An excellent reserved style of riesling, which should age superbly” – 95 Points & 5 Stars Huon Hooke "Juiciness, but some softness here too, with a pure feel and that freshly squeezed citrus really makes the mouth water. It has length, and a touch of perfume to close. Flat out delicious. Clare Valley Riesling fanciers should be all over this" - 95 Points Gary Walsh

  15. Mesh Eden Valley RieslingVARIETAL Riesling VINTAGE 2017 REGION Eden Valley, Australia ABV% 12.5% FOOD PAIRING NOTES Natural oysters, or fresh rocket and pomegranate saladPROFILE From the beginning of the joint adventure in 2002, two subtly different winemaking methods were agreed upon to achieve the desired outcome, which is to make a wine with a strong citrus flavour and slight mineral profile, typical of the Eden Valley region. The winemakers were looking for long, rich flavours with a greater emphasis on power, generosity, persistence and texture than is normally seen. The grapes are "pedantically divided" by selectively hand picking alternate rows into yellow and blue buckets on the same day. The two separate parcels are then crushed at different locations and the finished components and combinations jointly assessed post-vintage, amid lively debate, to determine the final blend. TASTING NOTES The wine is green and vibrant in appearance, with aromas of zesty lemon and grapefruit. An intense and generous palate, with lively citrus fruit and hints of talc. The wine finishes clean and dry with refreshing, long acidity. As is the case with all great Eden Valley Rieslings, mesh will age gracefully and reliably into a mature wine under the Stelvin closure. 16. PROFILE Domaine Marcel DEISS is located in Bergheim, a small village nestling in the heart of the wine region of Alsace, equidistant from the northern and southern boundaries of the region. Current winemaker Jean-Michel DEISS was born into a long-established family of wine growers, living at BERGHEIM since 1744. The Domaine consists of 26 hectares (52 acres) of hillside vineyards spread over 9 communes and approximately 20 kilometres. The extreme variation in conditions of production at the Domaine have led Jean-Michel DEISS to seek to express in each wine the three factors that make a wine complete: the grape variety, the vintage and the terroir. Jean-Michel DEISS commitment and personal integrity have led him to the conclusion that, as in most other parts of France, it is the dedicated nurturing of vines in specific terroirs which produces wines of unique distinction, originality, and authenticity. TASTING NOTES Lemony, mineral and deep white, a great wine. Brilliant yellow dress, with aromas of zests and white fruits. The pleasant taste presents notes of lemon, pineapple and white peach. The surprising liveliness is balanced by the depth and this harmony is perfectly reproduced in the mouth. Liquor Act Liquor Act 2007.
