Beautifully balanced; blossom, nectar and lime juice don't come better than this exquisitely detailed wine. Tasmanian climate is perfect for this style.” – 97 Points James Halliday “Spicy, limy fragrance, possibly some botrytis giving a tealeafy note. The palate has some richness as well as sweetness and depth and lingers well, too. The acid level seems lower than most of its peers. Lovely drink. May peak relatively early. 12. Springvale covers just 6 hectares of a much larger property at Watervale. Planted to exactly mirror the limestone below, the aim was to produce a ‘typical’ Watervale riesling. However, as the vines matured and the roots hit Mintaro slate buried deep below the limestone, recent vintages have expressed a unique site-specific, more mineral profile. Blind tastings in recent years have indicated that, in quality terms, Springvale is closer to Polish Hill than was once the case and that conventional wisdom might suggest. The outstanding 2016 vintage has clarified the changing character of the Springvale. Grosset Springvale 2016 has attractive lemon blossom aromatics with a hint of chalkiness; is intensely dry and mouthpuckering in its youth; shows generous lime, lemongrass flavours again with minerally notes; and finishes dry, vibrant and long. It is poised and given neat balance by its tight structure and shaley minerally acidity. “It’s a riesling you want to drink a lot of right now, but you know you’ve got a winner in the cellar anyway. Perfume is deadset unreal – smells mineral charged to the hilt, crushed slate, flint, wet pebbles, granite, with whiffs of honeysuckle and citrus blossom floral things around it. The palate is tingly with tonic water sour-sweetness, bitter botanicals and citrus, with a trickle of mineral water-like minerality. It’s pretty relaxed in the palate, spreads softly in a washy flow, yet has a light crunch to texture too. Lovely stuff.” – 94 Points Mike Bennie “The bouquet is chalky, savoury and flowery, very clean and fresh, pristine and overt. The palate has more weight than the Polish Hill, and more power. It's a wine of great clarity and purity, and the most impressive riesling on the day. Magical.” – 97 Points Huon Hooke

  19. Heggies has always been constantly good, and great value, and this 2014 version is no different. Made in a dry style, it shows lovely aromas of lemons, limes, wet stone and jasmine florals on the nose, whilst the palate is light, tight and zippy with citrus and ginger spice flavours, frisky acidity, and a bright, lip-smacking finish that would see this match well with sushi and sashimi. Stick a few bottles in the the cellar and watch it develop toast and honey characters over the next 7 to 10 years.

  20. Pewsey Vale Eden Valley Riesling is rich in taste and history. In 1847, shortly after his arrival from England, Joseph Gilbert built a fine homestead in Eden Valley and planted the region's first grapevines. This wine has great length and depth with limes, fresh rosemary, white pepper and a hint of tropical fruit. The wine finishes with a fresh natural acidity which balances the flavour intensity and a minerality that will reward medium to long-term cellaring.

Though part of the Barossa, the Eden Valley is a slightly cooler climate than the neighbouring Barossa Valley, so generally produce Shiraz that is slightly more elegant in style. That said, the Eden Hall Shiraz is a wine that is not only rich, vibrant and full of life today, it will also hang in for the long haul.
