  1. Charlie Maiolo's Gallows Wine Co is one of Margaret River's secret gems. For years, Charlie's grapes were snapped up by Cape Mentelle. Seeing the quality of those wines - and the awards they were winning - Charlie decided to put them under his own label, and The Gallows was born. This stylish Merlot Shiraz blend is smooth, spicy, flavoursome and elegant. A great find!

  3. This red blend from Geoff Hardy is drinking really well right now, and would be great company with a rack of lamb and some roast spuds. It's quite a full-boded style that shows ripe, rich black currants on the nose, with some violets and mint in the mix. The palate is smooth and juicy, with plummy flavours, a lick of toast, soft tannins, and a sultry finish.

  4. Big and bold, these wines are not. This summer reds pack is chock full of medium bodied wines, light on the tannins and big on flavours. Juicy, slurp-able flavour. These are the perfect reds to be drinking as the mercury rises this summer.

  5. We favour elegance and balance in our wines and have strived for this with our Trillians Sparkling Red. Always a selected blend (mostly of Shiraz Cabernet Merlot but not necessarily in that order), allows us to achieve our wish. Secondary fermentation by the Charmat process allows us to sustain fruit roundness & tannin of the wine whilst keeping true to its integrity. Intentionally a slightly drier style than most but beautifully balanced to ensure the best of both worlds- a stand alone drink with friends or a beautiful accompaniment to a meal. Following continuing cork problems with past Sparkling Reds we are so pleased we have made the decision to move to a crown seal closure. No more tainted or flat bottles. Hurray!.

  14. Heathcote, the home of Victoria's biggest and best Shiraz is the natural home of our Tyrrell's Red Dirt Shiraz, which looks bigger and badder this year. We caught up with Bruce Tyrrell recently and said 'let’s make this wine even better'. So we tasted some barrels, selected the very best and have bottled the very first Tyrrell's Red Dirt Reserve Heathcote Shiraz. If you liked the 2010, you will love the new 2013 vintage - It is bigger, bolder, rounder (thanks to the warm vintage) and with some extra tannin oomph that will help it get even better in the cellar. We recommend you decant it to get the very best out of this bad boy.

  15. Here's a red from a great year down south that is big in body and rich in flavour. It's a fuller-bodied number that shows ripe aromas of dark plums, pepper spice and cherry jam on the nose, whilst the palate is lush and sweetly fruited, with surprisingly gentle tannins and a plush, fulsome finish. A juicy steak is the go with this good value wine!

  16. Mont-Redon not only turns out excellent whites from the Rhone, but also some pretty spiffy reds. Made from a blend of grenache, cinsault and shiraz, it's a more modern style that shows lots of raspberries and assorted red fruits on the nose, along with a touch of meaty savouriness, and a smattering of dried herbs. The palate is full-bodied, smooth and quite fruity, with delicate licks of savoury flavours, a mellowness to the tannins, and a juicy finish that will have you pouring another glass. Excellent value for the contents of the bottle!

  17. Australia is spoilt for choice with value fortifieds, and this is quite a rich, sweet style. Dried fruits, toffee apples, chocolaty oak and nutty smells rise from the glass, whilst the palate is unctuous and sweetish, with fruitcake and toffee flavours punching through, soft tannins, a touch of twangy acidity, and a soft, sweet finish. Great with a chocolate brownie.

  18. Made from a blend of grenache, shiraz and carignan, it's certainly in a modern vein with lots of fruity smells of raspberries, cherries and dark plums on the nose, whilst the palate is more full-bodied and sweetly-fruited, with lush red berry flavours, a touch of soft spice, fine friendly tannins, and a juicy fruit finish. It's excellent value and rates highly on the drinkability scale.

  19. What’s does classic dry red mean, well it’s a classic blend of Cabernet and Shiraz and it’s got a dry finish but more than that it comes from one of the original wineries of the Margaret River region. Vasse Felix are as famous as the surf breaks that dot the region and this wine is one of their more down to earth offerings that has turned up at a multitude of barbecues in the past. Expect equal amounts of raspberry and pepper with a generous, mouth-filling palate and soft, even tannins.

  20. There’s a bit of showmanship attributed to this label that’s based on circus performers. The ringmaster of the vines is winemaker Michael Kerrigan who makes wines for Hay Shed Hill in the Margaret River. This blend of three varieties is also a blend of regions; McLaren vale and the Barossa. It’s a combination of bold-fruited Shiraz, savoury Grenache and spicy Tempranillo that delivers a subtle but complex wine. There’s lashings of ripe fruit on offer here, with lots of layered spice and a soft, textured finish.
