  13. If top notch Barbera is what you are looking for, here is one to get your palate racing. Made by top La Morra winery, Ciabot Berton, the fruit comes from 60-year old vines, so this is an intense little number. Medium to full-bodied in style, it shows lush, fleshy black fruits on the nose with a touch of dried roses. The palate is fruit-driven and very more-ish, with a lick of roasted nuts and soft, savoury edged tannins before the long, dry finish. It's a real food wine, and would be great with a rich spag bog.

  14. This is a wine for Riesling lovers or anyone who loves dry white wine. Marlborough is fast becoming a hot destination for all sorts of other varieties besides the ubiquitous Savvy Blanc. Already aged for seven years in the bottle, this wine is ready to be unleashed with some simple seafood. It shows aromas of lime and citrus peel as well as a toasty complexity before a creamy and persistent finish. Still amazingly fresh, you can comfortably cellar this for the next five years. Awards and Accolades 5 Stars- Michael Cooper - NZ. 5 Stars- "TOP 5 NZ RIESLINGS" Cuisine Magazine. 91 Points- Bob Campbell MW - NZ.

  15. This wine is nurtured for eight years before you even get a look in. How’s that for hands on winemaking? It spends three years maturing in expensive oak before being consigned to an expensive bottle where it languishes for a further three years. Okay, so it’s not cheap but it will deliver you a wine experience that is unforgettable. Classic McLaren Vale Shiraz richness, with plum and licorice aromas before an intense palate of black fruits and a ridiculously long finish.

  18. From an epic vintage in France comes this dessert wine made from a blend of semillon and muscadelle. Aromas of fragrant jasmine and honeysuckle florals, stone fruits and toastiness rise from the glass, meanwhile the palate is deeply fruited and sweet, with honeyed peach flavours, a talcy texture, an excellent balance between sweetness and acidity, and a fresh, clean finish that is thankfully not syrupy. For those of us who can't afford Sauternes, this is a mighty fine option.

  19. This Nebbiolo is another level up from the Estate version Pizzini produce and this shows their commitment to single vineyard fruit producing the best expression of Nebbiolo. If making a Nebbbiolo to rival the best of Piedmont then they’ve nailed it with this release. The palate is long and rich with brooding dark fruit in the black and red spectrum with savoury undertones. The palate is all about the impressive tannin weight and the deliciously robust flavours while chiseled acids keep it all in check. This is special occasion drinking and needs food to cope with all those firm tannins.

  1. The full and unabridged play in comic book form. It’s 11th century Scotland. Macbeth, Thane of Glamis, is one of King Duncan’s greatest war captains. Upon returning from a battle with the rebellious Thane of Cawdor, Macbeth and Banquo encounter three witches, who prophecy that Macbeth will become Thane of Cawdor and then King. They also prophecy that Banquo will become the father of kings. When Lady Macbeth hears this, she is determined to push her husband to take fate into his own hands and make himself king by murdering Duncan. Macbeth is reluctant to harm Duncan. But, when the King makes arrangements to visit Macbeth’s castle, the opportunity presents itself. Pressed on by his wife, Macbeth kills Duncan and blames the King’s drunken attendants, who he also kills. However, Macbeth is racked with guilt and begins to see apparitions. When the body is discovered, Malcolm and Donalbain, the King’s sons, are suspicious of Macbeth and flee for their lives. To everyone else, it looks as if the sons have been the chief conspirators and Macbeth is crowned King of Scotland.Banquo’s suspicions grow, based on his encounter with the witches and Macbeth is wary of the second prophecy concerning Banquoa’s offspring. Macbeth hires assassins to kill Banquo and his son, Fleance. Banquo is murdered that night, but Fleance escapes. The bloody ghost of Banquo appears to Macbeth at a feast, tormenting his already guilty conscience. In addition, Macduff, once a comrade of Macbeth, has fled after the King’s sons to England, as he also suspects Macbeth. In revenge, Macbeth butchers Macduff’s entire household. Macduff and the King’s sons raise an army in England and march against Macbeth, who is given another prophecy by the witches, as he prepares for the assault. They tell him his throne is safe until Birnam Wood comes to Dunsinane and he will not die by the hand of any man born of a woman. Macbeth now feels invincible. Lady Macbeth, on the other hand, has been slowly driven mad by her dreams, in the wake of Duncan’s murder. She sleepwalks and eventually kills herself. Macbeth learns that many of his lords are deserting and joining Malcolm’s army, which approaches Dunsinane under cover of boughs, which they’ve cut from the trees of Birnam Wood.Macbeth and Macduff eventually meet on the bloody battlefield. Macbeth laughs derisively, relating the witches’ prophecy. But Macduff retorts that he was from his mother’s womb untimely ripp’d and not (technically) of woman born. The play ends with the death of Macbeth and Malcolm is crowned King of Scotland.

  2. Edited, introduced and annotated by Cedric Watts, Professor of English Literature, University of Sussex.Shakespeare’s Macbeth is one of the greatest tragic dramas the world has known. Macbeth himself, a brave warrior, is fatally impelled by supernatural forces, by his proud wife, and by his own burgeoning ambition. As he embarks on his murderous course to gain and retain the crown of Scotland, we see the appalling emotional and psychological effects on both Lady Macbeth and himself. The cruel ironies of their destiny are conveyed in poetry of unsurpassed power. In the theatre, this tragedy remains perennially engrossing.

  4. The New Cambridge Shakespeare appeals to students worldwide for its up-to-date scholarship and emphasis on performance. The series features line-by-line commentaries and textual notes on the plays and poems. Introductions are regularly refreshed with accounts of new critical, stage and screen interpretations. This second edition of Macbeth provides a thorough reconsideration of one of Shakespeare’s most popular plays. In his introduction, A. R. Braunmuller explores Macbeth’s immediate theatrical and political contexts, particularly the Gunpowder Plot, and addresses such celebrated questions as: do the Witches compel Macbeth to murder; is Lady Macbeth herself in some sense a witch; is Macduff morally culpable? A new and well-illustrated account of the play in performance examines several cinematic versions, such as those by Kurosawa and Roman Polanski, as well as other dramatic adaptations. Several possible new sources are suggested and the presence of Thomas Middleton’s writing in the play is also proposed.
