Dreame Technologies, known for making some pretty good robot vacuum cleaners, has adapted the smarts it uses for home maintenance to outdoor care.

The brand debuted the Roboticmower A1 in Berlin at the IFA 2023 trade show in September last year and has now released it for pre-order in most markets. Setting you back $3,999 at full price, it's a $1,000 premium over the likes of the Ecovacs Goat G1 robot lawn mower which can handle up to 600sqm of grass a day. The Dreame, though, can mow up to 1,000sqm of grass in a day.

To entice customers, Dreame currently has an introductory offer that slashes $500 off the Roboticmower A1's asking price, along with a generous three-year warranty.

The A1 uses a 5,000mAh capacity battery, which doesn't sound like much for a robot lawn mower, but its path-finding smarts allows it to pick the most efficient way to not just conserve its battery life, but also provide the most uniform cutting results possible. When it does run out of juice, it will find its way to its dock and pick up where it left off when it's fully charged again – just like a robot vacuum.

Speaking of cutting, the Roboticmower A1 can be adjusted to trim grass at different heights between 3-7cm, which can be set on the Dreamhome app. Also via the app, the mower can perform All Area, Zone, Spot or Edge mowing, depending on your garden's needs.

According to Dreame, the mower takes about 15 minutes on its first run to complete a map of your lawn by using technology the company calls an OmniSense 3D Ultra Sensing System. It's essentially a 360º camera boasting a wide field of vision of 59º and paired with a LiDAR sensor to detect obstacles that are up to 70 metres away. This wide view, Dreame promises, is what quickens the mapping process while also keeping it as accurate as possible.

The mower also uses AI data and algorithms to recognise 11 different obstacles you might find in a garden, like pots and your pets, keeping the whole process running smoothly. And if it missed a spot because your furry friend couldn't be bothered to move, you can always set up a spot mow via the app.

While the Roboticmower A1 won't be able to tackle steep slopes, it can move efficiently at a gradation of up to 24º.

To further justify its higher price tag compared to some of its competition (including from Husqvarna), the Roboticmower A1 can detect precipitation falling on it and will automatically return to its charging station when it starts to rain... and it will pick up again from where it stopped after the skies clear.

All these features have been designed to help you get back the time you spend mowing your lawn and, with its pre-order offer directly from Dreame for $500 off, it sounds like, well, a dream. The Roboticmower A1 will be begin shipping in April and will make its way to specialist stores soon.
