Koala mattresses gained in popularity rather quickly in 2015 after the Aussie start-up successfully convinced shoppers that its mattress was not just affordable, but also comfortable, supportive and, importantly, offered zero-disturbance sleep if you happened to be beside a restless partner.
That old 2015 mattress no longer exists as Koala has since redesigned its mattress lineup, with the latest range now getting a fourth member added.
The Koala Sleep Easy Mattress (or Koala SE as it's represented on the company's website) has been "inspired by the [mattress] that started it all". It's currently the cheapest Koala mattress you can get without too many compromises on comfort and support.
Some compromises, however, have had to be made to keep the price down. Firstly, you don't get the flippable sleep layer that's there on all three of its more expensive siblings and, like the current base Koala Mattress it lacks edge support.
According to Koala, that's all the compromises here. It's rated to be medium-firm, just like the Koala Mattress in the current range, and also offers the same three-zone support as the base model. This should be enough for users who don't need the extra support for the back and hips.
Koala says it's also zero disturbance and is made from the same materials as the more expensive offerings, so you get the breathable Tencel Lyocell cover that makes the Koala mattresses cool in summer.
The Koala Sleep Easy's biggest selling point is its price: available in five sizes ranging from single to king, its price starts at just $575 for the former and goes up to $995 for the king. The most popular mattress size in Australia is queen, and the Sleep Easy in this size is priced at just $800.
