About Sony Australia

Sony was founded in 1946 in Japan by Masaru Ibuka and Akio Morita. While it started out as a small electronics shop, over time it has evolved into one of the world’s most influential electronic corporations. From advancing the technology of the transistor radio in the 1950s to creating the Walkman in the 1980s, Sony is renowned for pushing the boundaries in consumer electronics. The creation of Sony’s PlayStation also solidified the company as a major player in the video gaming industry. Sony first created a CD-based gaming console in the 1980s in a collaboration with Nintendo. This collaboration ultimately failed, but Sony continued to work on its own gaming console. Eventually, the PlayStation was launched in December 1994 and it marked a milestone in the gaming industry. The device introduced new technology, most notably, CD-based media and advanced 16-bit 3D graphics. In combination with a diverse range of games, this advanced technology helped the PlayStation quickly gain popularity worldwide. Sony continued to work on the PlayStation, launching various newer models of the console including the PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4 and most recently, the PlayStation 5. Each console came with new, innovative technology and an extensive library of games. Today, the PlayStation is one of the best-selling and most well known gaming consoles of all time. Another product that Sony is well known for is its range of noise cancelling headphones, which are among the most popular on the market. Sony’s headphones are renowned for their exceptional sound quality and effective noise-cancelling technology. With a wide selection of headphones, including over-ear headphones such as the Sony WH-1000XM series and true-wireless earbuds from the Sony WF-1000XM series, there are lots of options to choose from, whatever your preference. Sony is also a big player in the television market. Its popular Bravia range runs the Google TV operating system and includes everything from affordable LED models to the latest QD-OLED TVs. Sony’s TVs are generally admired for their impressive picture and sound quality as well as their innovative technologies. For example, the Bravia XR TV series uses AI to analyse and optimise picture and sound elements for a more immersive experience.
