Originating in the US as an in-store shopping event, Black Friday has since grown and transformed into one of the biggest annual global sales, with a massive component taking place online.

In terms of dates, Black Friday falls on the Friday after Thanksgiving. This means that in 2026, Black Friday will fall on Friday, November 27 and Cyber Monday will be held on Monday, November 30. However, it’s worth noting that we usually see retailers starting their sales a week or two before the official start date, so you won’t have to wait until the end of November to start shopping Black Friday deals.

Every year we see a massive range of retailers choose to participate in the sales event, including heavy hitters like Amazon, Myer, JB Hi-Fi, ASOS, Gymshark, The Good Guys and Ray-Ban. This means that no matter what you’re shopping for, you should be able to pick up mega savings on a wide range of items, from popular tech gadgets, homewares, fashion, beauty products, toys and more. Occurring at the end of November, Black Friday is the perfect opportunity to treat yourself to something you’ve been eyeing off all year, or to save on your Christmas shopping.

November is still a long way away so we won't have any information on the sale for quite a while, but while we wait, here's a recap on some of the best Black Friday sales from 2025.

Black Friday FAQs

What is Black Friday?

Black Friday is a massive shopping event that originated in the United States. It falls on the Friday after Thanksgiving in the US, which means it always occurs on the fourth Friday of November. The Black Friday sales have now extended past a single day, and typically run for four days, ending on Cyber Monday which falls on the Monday immediately after Black Friday.

Black Friday marks the start of the holiday shopping season in the United States, and the same is now true for Australia. Some data has shown that the timing of the Black Friday sales a few weeks before Christmas has encouraged shoppers to bring forward their Christmas spending to take advantage of the deals on offer.

When is Black Friday in 2026?

Black Friday will fall on Friday 27 November in 2026, which is the Friday immediately after Thanksgiving in the US.

In the past, most retailers launched their Black Friday sales at midnight on the day of Black Friday, with in-person deals available that morning. However, these days, the majority of retailers and brands now don't necessarily wait for Black Friday to arrive; instead, they start their sales a few days (typically two days to a week) early. These offers, though, aren't necessarily as good as what you would see during the four days that make up the Black Friday weekend, so it's usually a good idea to wait to see how much you can save. Worst case, the deals won't be any better and the 'early' deals are still great one to snap up.

As we’ve mentioned, Black Friday is not a single-day sale, and deals will be available right through until Cyber Monday. In 2026, Cyber Monday is on 30 November, and you can expect sales to officially finish at 11:59pm AEDT. In Australia, most retailers do finish their Black Friday campaign on this day, but there are always some offers that extend into early December.

How long do Black Friday sales last?

Black Friday sales will officially start at midnight on November 27 in 2026, and wrap up at 11:59pm AEDT on 30 November, which is Cyber Monday. In recent years, however, we’ve noticed that retailers will start offering early Black Friday deals at least few days before the official date, with some retailers starting their sales as early as mid November. That means you should keep an eye out for savings as early as the first few weeks of November.

Is Black Friday the biggest sale in Australia?

This is a tricky one to answer, but some data has suggested that Black Friday is now the biggest sale in Australia, overtaking Boxing Day in terms of retail spending. According to payment data collected by the Commonwealth Bank, retail spending jumped by 8% in the last week of November in 2022, which included the Black Friday sales period.

CommBank’s chief economist, Stephen Halmarick, also says there’s been a change in consumer’s spending habits towards the end of the year. “[2022’s] Black Friday results continue to show a clear shift in recent years for shoppers to bring forward their Christmas spending and make the most of the sales on offer,” he said.
